QNAP has announced the immediate availability of their dual-CPU, NVMe all-flash storage TDS-h2489FU NAS, which is purpose-built for HPC, virtualization, file servers, and 4K/8K multimedia applications. The new NAS is highlighted by its Intel Xeon Silver 4300 processors (16 or 32 Cores) and twenty-four U.2 NVMe Gen 4 x4 SSD bays and is quoted over 1 million iSCSI 4K random read IOPS performance with ultra-low latency.
It comes equipped with dual 25GbE SFP28 ports, four 2.5GbE RJ45 LAN ports, two PCIe Gen 4 slots, and 1200W redundant power supplies. Moreover, it leverages the ZFS-based QuTS hero operating system, which provides significant data reduction and SSD optimization tools.
Its dual-processor allows for multiplied core performance and up to 1TB DDR4 ECC memory with 8-channel modules and 32 Long-DIMM slots. As noted, the SSD bays are Gen4. This is the first time we’ve seen a packaged NAS like this offer so many Gen4 bays, which should allow the NAS to produce fast application response times.
The QNAP TDS-h2489FU comes with two M.2 PCIe Gen 3/SATA 6Gbps slots, which can be populated with data center SSDs to boost ZIL performance. It also has two PCIe Gen 4 slots (one of which comes pre-installed with a dual-port 25GbE NIC), giving users even more flexibility to customize the NAS. For example, users can add high-speed network interface cards, QM2 cards (where you can install M.2 SSDs or add 2.5GbE/10GbE connectivity), Fibre Channel cards, or storage expansion cards to achieve maximum storage capacity.
The TDS-h2489FU is powered by the ZFS-based QuTS hero, which means more data integrity with self-healing and SSD-optimizing features such as Write Coalescing, TRIM, and Pool Over-provisioning. Additionally, QuTS hero supports near-unlimited snapshots and versioning to improve data protection and prevent simultaneous multi-SSD failures.
The QNAP’s App Center expands on the TDS-h2489FU’s capabilities such as hosting virtual machines and containers, facilitating VM backup, simplifying local, remote, and cloud backups, and setting up cloud storage gateways.
