Today Rafay Systems announced its turnkey, SaaS-based offering for containerized app lifecycle management is now generally available. Rafay also announced that it netted $8 million in Series A funding. The funding was led by Ridge Ventures with NTT DOCOMO Ventures also participating in the round, along with Costanoa Ventures and Moment Ventures, both of which previously participated in the company’s $4.1 million seed round.
Located in Sunnyvale, California, Rafay is led by CEO Haseeb Budhani and VP of Engineering Hemanth Kavurulu. Both men cofounded the company after working together at Soha Systems on systems development, cloud networking, and network security. Soha was acquired by Akamai Technologies in 2016. Rafay’s main focus as a company is the above mention SaaS for container lifecycle management.
Kubernetes has been widely embraced since it first came out. While it is excellent for container orchestration there is still much to be done on the user side to take full advantage of Kubernetes. This leads several companies to build their own platforms that can further complexity. Rafay’s offering is aimed at reducing this complexity thus resulting in faster time to market for new business capabilities. The company states that its application abstraction, cluster blueprinting and enterprise-ready integration features make it the ideal platform for multi-region, multi-cloud, hybrid and edge/Multi-access Edge Computing (MEC) adoption.
