Today, Seagate updated its IronWolf line of Network Attached Storage (NAS) drives. The changes include adding two new SATA SSD (Solid-State Drives) and a new, larger 18TB HDD (Hard Disk Drive). It’s impressive to see them adding another 2TB to their largest drives just a year after they released their 16TB models. It’s even more impressive since they just added M.2 form-factor SSDs a few months ago.

According to Seagate, the new 18TB IronWolf Pro HDD is designed for NAS use cases. The new drive uses AgileArray firmware on top of CMR technology to support multiple simultaneous data streams. The sustained transfer rate caps out at 250MB/s, which is faster than other IronWolf HDDs, although the spindle speed remains at 7200 RPM. The company claims that the drive has a workload rate limit (WRL) of 300TB/year. The initial retail price is a rather curious $608.99.
The two new SATA SSDs are split across the IronWolf and IronWolf Pro lines. The IronWolf 125 SSD versions are available in 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB models. The IronWolf 125 Pro SSD versions come in 240GB, 480GB, 960GB, 1.92TB, and 3.84TB. Those are the exact same sizes Seagate’s existing IronWolf 110 SSDs are available in, which suggests the new 125 models are intended as a replacement for them. Unlike the 110s, the new 125s come with IronWolf Health Management with compatible NAS systems.
