Seagate IronWolf 510 SSD Launched

Today Seagate Technology plc announced the expansion of its IronWolf SSD product line. The company is rolling out the Seagate IronWolf 510 SSD. This new SSD is a M.2 NVMe drive is aimed at NAS devices that need storage for caching. Seagate states the drive can hit cashing speeds up to 3GB/s and is ready for 24×7 multi-user use.

This new SSD is a M.2 NVMe is aimed at NAS devices that need storage for caching. Seagate states the drive can hit cashing speeds up to 3GB/s and is ready for 24×7 multi-user use.

SSD caching went from a niche feature to a fairly common one pretty quick amongst NAS vendors. As more users looked to leverage the technology, they ran into the issue of giving up bays for the SSDs, therefore giving up capacity. A solution that brings the best of both worlds, was added M.2 bays onto the NAS to allow the caching without giving up bays. Noting this, Seagate has rolled out the Seagate IronWolf 510 to fit in the bay and provide caching needs.

The Seagate IronWolf 510 slots into the M.2 bay and provides the correct type of drive for NAS caching needs. For 24×7 use the drive will need higher endurance. To that end, the drive come with 1 DWPD and 1.8 million hours MTBF. On top of a five-year limited warranty, the drive comes with two years of Rescue Data Recovery Services. The new SSDs will also come with IronWolf Health Management.
