SK hynix and Solidigm have announced the new D5-P5530 enterprise SSD, the companies’ first joint project. This new drive and partnership come roughly three months after SK hynix officially acquired Intel’s NAND and SSD business.

Solidigm P5530

Dubbed a “limited release,” the P5530 combines SK hynix’s 128-layer 4D NAND flash technology with Solidigm’s SSD controller and firmware. This new PCIe Gen4 drive is offered in capacities of 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB options and is ideal for specific data center use cases and targeted deployments. No other specifications and information about the new P5530 (such as performance and endurance numbers) have been disclosed by SK hynix at this time.

SK hynix launched Solidigm Technology back in January of this year, which was the direct result of the company’s $9 billion acquisition of Intel’s NAND Business. This was easily the largest acquisition for SK hynix to date. Based in San Jose, Solidigm operates as a standalone U.S. subsidiary of SK hynix Inc., managing product development, manufacturing, and sales of the newly acquired Intel assets. Solidigm is also SK hynix’s partner of choice when it comes to customers in solid-state memory storage.

SK hynix indicates that this is just one of their many upcoming collaborative ventures that will hit the NAND and SSD industry, so we certainly expect to see more similar joint releases in the solid-state storage space in the coming months and years.
