Subaru Corporation has forged a strategic alliance with Dell Technologies, aiming to revolutionize driver safety by harnessing the power of artificial intelligence (AI) and cutting-edge storage solutions. This partnership underscores the pivotal role of AI in reshaping conventional modes of transportation, with a primary focus on enhancing safety for drivers, passengers, and pedestrians alike.

Arthur Lewis, President of Infrastructure Solutions Group at Dell Technologies, underscores the transformative potential of data-driven innovation in bolstering driver safety. By leveraging Dell’s PowerScale storage infrastructure, Subaru endeavors to propel the development of its next-generation EyeSight Driver Assist Technology. In more than 5.5 million vehicles worldwide, EyeSight ensures safety by monitoring traffic dynamics, optimizing cruise control, and issuing timely warnings to prevent lane deviations.

Adopting Dell PowerScale network-attached storage systems empowers Subaru to effectively store, manage, and analyze vast troves of data critical for refining their driver assist technology. This infrastructure addresses the demand for AI modeling and validation, enabling seamless scalability and enhanced performance across diverse data environments.

SUBARU Lab Integrates Dell PowerScale Systems

At the heart of Subaru’s AI innovation lies the SUBARU Lab, which was established in 2020 as a hub for AI development initiatives. With the integration of Dell PowerScale systems, SUBARU Lab experiences a quantum leap in data storage capacity, facilitating more robust AI image analysis. This newfound scalability enables Subaru to access stored data effortlessly, fostering collaboration between the SUBARU Lab and Tokyo offices and unlocking new avenues for business expansion.

Takashi Kanai, Deputy Chief of SUBARU Lab and Manager of ADAS Development Department, underscores Subaru’s commitment to safety and innovation. He affirms the confidence in Dell PowerScale as the linchpin of EyeSight technology, driving continuous advancements in AI to elevate driver safety standards.

EyeSight, leveraging stereo camera technology, is a testament to Subaru’s dedication to safety. Its sophisticated features, including pre-collision braking and adaptive cruise control, have earned accolades from independent agencies worldwide. Subaru’s internal research, based on data from Japan’s Institute for Traffic Accident Research and Data Analysis (ITARDA), underscores the unparalleled safety performance of EyeSight-equipped vehicles, with an accident rate as low as 0.06 percent.

Dell PowerScale’s robust capabilities extend beyond mere storage, facilitating data tiering and multicloud integration. This versatility empowers SUBARU Lab to conduct comprehensive data analysis, driving AI-driven initiatives and cementing Subaru’s position as a trailblazer in automotive safety.
