Upgrading and Older Mac Pro to SATA 3.0

Earlier Mac Pro desktops only had SATA 2.0 (3.0Gbps), and for those looking to use a faster SSD solution it could be a performance limiter. OWC offers a PCI-e internal upgrade card to bring SATA 3.0 to these desktops.

The MAXPower RAID mini-SAS 6G-1e1i controller card features a mini-SAS port and supports RAID levels 0, 1, 5, and 10. OWC also offers an expansion cable to bridge the distance between the PCI-e port and the logic board at the front of the desktop. Since the PCI-e card isn’t bootable, a drive with an OS must be connected to the standard SATA 2.0 ports in the desktop.

The MAXPower RAID mini-SAS 6G-1e1 currently goes for $267.99.
