Lastline is recognized for its AI-based threat detection capabilities, and most recently, their Network Detection and Response (NDR) and Public Cloud security solutions. Due to Lastline’s rigorous analytical approach and full-system emulation, its core product allows the Lastline team to detect and block the many derivates of malware families. VMware states: Lastline detonates more than 5 million file samples daily, and the Lastline technology protects more than 20 million users across thousands of organizations worldwide, including 5 of the 10 largest financial institutions.

VMware praised the staff of Lastline, that consists of anti-malware researchers and developers, and go-to-market security experts, and said they are pleased to bring them into the NSX team. Both companies assure they will be able to offer additional capabilities to customers and bring to market comprehensive security solutions for the data center, branch office, and remote and mobile users upon joining forces.

VMware’s NSX architecture will enable Lastline to perform network analytics on a massive scale. The combination of NSX plus VMware Carbon Black will also allow the Lastline algorithms to analyze a particular interaction with greater workload context. This broad context will enable security decisions and deployment simplicity, allowing VMware to bring Intrinsic Security to the enterprise at scale. Together, Lastline, NSX, and Carbon Black will deliver on VMware’s vision of Intrinsic Security, according to VMware.

The transaction is expected to close in VMware’s Q2 FY21 ending July 31, 2020.
