Ubiquiti Expands Storage Lineup with New UniFi UNAS Series

by Lyle Smith

UniFi’s new UNAS lineup brings scalable, license-free network storage to homes, small offices, and enterprises.

Ubiquiti has introduced a comprehensive update to its storage ecosystem with the unveiling of its new UniFi UNAS lineup, designed to deliver scalable and reliable storage for users ranging from home enthusiasts to enterprises. The refreshed range features the UNAS 2, UNAS 4, UNAS Pro 4, and UNAS Pro 8, catering to varying storage demands. The new line offers a blend of elegant design, solid performance, and flexibility, all unified under the UniFi Drive platform.

UNAS 2: Streamlined Desktop Storage with Essential Features

The UNAS 2 is designed as a simple, compact desktop NAS tailored for users who prioritize ease of deployment and quiet operation. Built with a lightweight polycarbonate enclosure, it supports two 3.5″ hard drives and relies on a single PoE++ connection for both power and network, eliminating the need for a separate power adapter. A USB-C expansion port adds flexibility for attaching external devices, while the 1.47-inch color LCM display provides basic system status at a glance.

With a Quad-Core ARM Cortex-A55 processor clocked at 1.7 GHz and 4 GB of memory, the UNAS 2 is optimized for lightweight tasks such as file sharing, media access, and basic backup functions. Although it lacks SSD or NVMe support, its minimal footprint and 60W power ceiling make it suitable for small offices or home networks seeking a quiet, plug-and-play storage solution. Its NDAA compliance and operating tolerances make it ideal for various regulated environments.

UNAS 4: Versatile Mid-Tier Storage with NVMe Expansion

The UNAS 4 builds on the same desktop footprint as the UNAS 2, but adds performance features designed for users with larger or more demanding workloads. It doubles the drive bay capacity to four and introduces support for two M.2 NVMe SSDs, allowing for cache acceleration or tiered storage. Like its smaller sibling, the device utilizes PoE+++ for power, featuring a higher 90W adapter to meet the increased demand from larger drive configurations and SSDs.

Internally, the processor and memory remain the same (a Quad-Core ARM Cortex-A55 at 1.7 GHz and 4 GB RAM). Still, the expanded storage and power headroom provide flexibility in scenarios such as media production, surveillance storage, or branch office file sharing. The same 2.5 GbE RJ45 port handles network connectivity, and it retains the USB-C expansion port and color display. The UNAS 4 strikes a balance between simplicity and performance, particularly for teams that require more capacity without upgrading to a rackmount system.

UNAS Pro 4: Rackmount-Ready Storage with 10G Networking and SSD Caching

The UNAS Pro 4 introduces the first rackmount unit in the series, offering a compact 1U form factor ideal for network closets, data centers, or high-performance edge deployments. It features four 3.5″ HDD bays and two M.2 NVMe slots, combining bulk storage with fast caching. Powered by a quad-core ARM Cortex-A57 CPU at 2.0 GHz and paired with 8GB of memory, the device is built for demanding workflows such as surveillance storage, virtualization backups, or SMB file sharing.

UNAS Pro 4

What sets the Pro 4 apart is its dual 10G SFP+ interfaces and support for MC-LAG, offering both high throughput and network redundancy. A standard 1 GbE RJ45 port adds compatibility for legacy networks. Internally, a 150W AC/DC power supply supports up to 125W for drive power, and the unit includes support for Redundant Power Supply (RPS). With full LED indicators and a steel enclosure, it’s engineered for reliability and serviceability in structured environments.

UniFi Drive

Across all models, UniFi Drive acts as the common software layer. This platform offers backup integrations with AWS S3, Backblaze B2, and Wasabi, making cloud-based redundancy accessible out of the box. Active Directory integration provides seamless SMB file sharing and user access control. Moreover, UniFi Drive is free of recurring license fees (in contrast to many enterprise storage platforms), making it a cost-efficient choice for both small businesses and large deployments. Custom fan profiles also enable users to balance performance and noise levels based on deployment scenarios, from Quiet mode in home environments to full Cooling mode in data centers.

Pricing

Pricing for the UNAS lineup starts at $199 for the entry-level UNAS 2 and scales up to $799 for the enterprise-grade UNAS Pro 8. Mid-tier models are competitively priced: the UNAS 4 is priced at $379, and both rackmount options, the UNAS Pro 4 and Pro 8, are priced at $499 and $799, respectively.
