Flex Rack Level- Coolant Distribution Unit

Flex debuts a modular rack-level CDU built for AI and HPC workloads, offering scalable liquid cooling from 600 kW to 1.8 MW.

Flex has launched its new Modular Rack-Level Cooling Distribution Unit (CDU), developed by its liquid cooling arm, JetCool. Designed to meet the rising thermal demands of AI, HPC, and hyperscale environments, this marks the company’s first entry into rack-level CDU systems. A dedicated in-row CDU is scheduled for launch in April 2026.

Designed to scale with current and future rack-level liquid cooling deployments, the new CDU enables operators to deploy between two and six units per rack, with cooling capacities ranging from 600 kW to 1.8 MW. Its modularity allows facilities to begin with minimal infrastructure and grow capacity in line with demand, eliminating unnecessary overprovisioning. Operating at 1–1.5 liters per minute per kilowatt, the unit supports variable thermal loads across diverse hardware environments, offering tailored performance without sacrificing energy efficiency or rack space.

The system’s manifolding and integration capabilities are designed to accommodate heterogeneous deployments of servers, storage, and CDUs within the same rack. This allows operators to maximize compute density without disrupting existing floor plans. Intelligent cooling control matches thermal output to workload intensity, reducing energy waste and contributing to long-term operational savings. Its compact footprint helps to maximize usable rack space, which is an increasingly important metric in high-density environments.

Flex’s vertically integrated strategy combines design, manufacturing, and global support under a single roof. This approach eliminates the need for multi-vendor coordination, shortens deployment timelines, and reduces long-term risk. With end-to-end control of the cooling portfolio, Flex offers consistent component quality, streamlined procurement, and simplified maintenance, helping operators focus on scaling infrastructure rather than managing vendor complexity.

The Modular Rack-Level CDU is backed by Flex’s global warranty and support programs, and it is shipping now with standard and custom manifold options. The company plans to expand its cooling portfolio in 2026 with the upcoming in-row CDU, which will target higher-density aisle-level deployments.

Flex will showcase the new CDU at the OCP Global Summit 2025.
