Today Commvault announced new capabilities to help organizations safely store, share, and access files almost anywhere. Commvault has expanded the capabilities of its Endpoint Data Protection Solution Set by offering an enterprise file sync and share solution. Commvault is also announcing its personal cloud, Edge Drive.

File sync and share solutions (such as Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, Box, and Elephant Drive) have given businesses wonderful opportunities to share, collaborate, and access files from multiple locations and by various users. While this is speeding up certain aspects of business and lowers costs, it also presents a security concern with critical files potentially be accessed in multiple locations outside of IT's ability to watch. Commvault File Sharing allows all the benefits of the of file sync and share solutions, but it gives IT back its control by having the data stored in a secure location. This meets stringent regulatory and data governance requirements and still allows users to access the data in the same fashion they would use the above-mentioned programs, in other words, through web browsers and mobile apps.

Features and capabilities include:

  • A fully integrated solution for endpoint data backup, recovery, access, security, file sharing and data loss prevention
  • Flexibility in deployment options including on premises, hybrid or in the cloud (and via partners for managed or hosted solutions)
  • Unique security and compliance benefits with enterprise-wide search and discovery of datacenter and endpoint data
  • Insights into file type, size, and age to make more informed business decisions regarding data and information management
  • Increased security and usability to mobile devices, including features such as end-user search of protected data, which also improves mobile productivity
  • The ability to sync content across all of a user’s devices
  • An easy way to browse, download, manage, and restore files from the Edge Drive folder to a local device
  • Seamless sharing of files and folders from the Edge Drive folder with other users via the web or mobile app
  • Enterprise-grade security so data is encrypted at source, in transit and at rest
  • Administrative control to manage policies and permissions for all users at scale

Commvault's new Edge Drive features works with Commvault File Sharing and other file sync and share solutions. Edge Drive gives users a personal cloud in a virtual folder and enables real-time sharing of files for collaboration. Edge Drive is another method of secure file sync and share.

Organizations can also utilize Commvault Endpoint Data Protection Solution Set to secure data being shared through other file sync solutions like those listed above. Not only will IT be able to secure and backup the data, it will be fully searchable for eDiscovery. This ability is especially beneficial for industries such as financial services and healthcare.
