Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc. announced its newest line of enterprise performance HDDs, the AL14SE series. The AL14SE series is designed for mission critical servers and high-performance, high-availability storage systems. The new HDD series is a 10,500RPM drive series that supports 12Gbit/s SAS and 512n sector length making it compatible with the latest generation host controllers and host bus adapters.

The AL14SE series replaces the previous AL13SE generation models. The new series has been updated with 33% more capacity with its new four platter design. The AL14SE series also has twice the data buffer of the previous generation (now 128MB versus 64MB) giving it a performance improvement. And the AL14SE come in capacities of 300GB, 450GB, 600GB, 900GB and 1.2TB.

The AL14SE series is ideal for server and storage systems and applications requiring a balance between storage capacity and performance in virtualized storage environments.  This generation supports OEM customizations of value-add features such as optional RAID rebuild assist and optional self-encryption feature sets. The 12Gbit/s SAS feature provides auto-negotiation to 6Gbit/s SAS for legacy host controllers for backward compatibility. And the new AL14SE supports 512n sector length for applications and hypervisors that require it.
