Today Cisco announced that it was broadening its UCS portfolio of B-Series, C-Series, and HyperFlex systems with the introduction of the Cisco UCS C480 ML M5 Rack Server. This latest sever is designed specifically to deal with the growing footprint of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are having on the enterprise. The new server is built for data scientists and developers, aiding them as they navigate through these new technologies in the near future.

Big Data has been changing how the enterprise looks at data over the last few years and now technologies like AI and ML will change how the enterprise leverages that data going forward. AI and ML will change how the enterprise works as a whole as it will be able to help solve complex issues and allow for processes to become more and more efficient. While there is a world of promise here, there are some issues such as dealing with new workloads, patterns, and different resource allocation. This is where Cisco’s new UCS server comes in.

The Cisco UCS C480 ML is designed to help speed up deep learning by being packed with NVIDIA GPUs. NVIDIA’s powerful GPUs are needed to accelerate machine learning software stacks. These GPUs provide the necessary processing power to tackle vast sets of data and glean useable insights from it. Aside from the above-mentioned server, Cisco is also rolling out other computing options that are designed for each stage of the AI and ML lifecycle. The data is moved from the edge to core being analyzed all the way. Part of the other options include the new DevNet AI Developer Center and DevNet Ecosystem Exchange.

Benefits include:

  • Built for IT: UCS makes it easy for IT to add new technology to their environment. With Cisco Intersight, they also get the simplicity and reach of cloud-based systems management. This lets them automate policy and operations for all their computing infrastructure from the cloud. And with Cisco validated designs to help demystify the rapidly evolving stacks of AI and ML software, IT can deploy with confidence at enterprise scale.
  • Built with an ecosystem: Cisco is not working alone. It is embracing containers and multicloud computing models to make it easier to deploy open source software at scale, no matter where apps live. It is validating machine learning environments and software such as Anaconda, Kubeflow, and solutions from Cloudera and Hortonworks on the new server.

Availability

The Cisco UCS C480 ML M5 Rack Server is expected to be available in the fourth quarter of this year.
