HGST G-Technology has announced the latest versions of its G-RAID with removable drives solution. The new G-RAID solutions come with two connectivity options: there is the G-RAID with Thunderbolt 2 and USB 3.0 and the G-RAID with USB 3.0 only.

The G-RAID with Thunderbolt 2 and USB 3.0 claims transfers rates up to 440MB/s. These transfer rates will easily support multi-stream HD, 2K, and compressed 4K video workflows. This device would be for video editing professionals or media enthusiasts who want to take their library on the go.

The G-RAID with USB 3.0 only claims transfer rates up to 400MB/s. This device is ideal for audio/video editing, digital photography, music libraries, and high-speed backup. Given its price point, storage capacity (16TB with JBOD configuration), and sleek design, the G-RAID with USB 3.0 could work as an external hard drive for gaming systems like Microsoft's Xbox One (which allows up to two 16TB external drives through USB 3.0 connection.

Both drives have two 7,200RPM enterprise-class removable drives, an internal RAID controller that can be configured to RAID0, RAID1, or JBOD, a solid aluminum enclosure, and quiet cooling fan technology.
