Today Google made a series of updates to its Cloud Networking to continue to provide performance, reliability, and security for its customers. These updates include: General availability of Cloud DNS, an expansion of its load balancing solutions to 12 additional points of presence around the globe, a beta of Cloud Virtual Private Network (VPN), and eleven additional Carrier Interconnect Providers.

These four updates are aimed at achieving two specific goals. The first goal is to use serve users close to where they are located with Google’s global network footprint. This would help to ensure low latencies and great responsiveness. The second goal involves connecting on-premises infrastructure with Google’s network with enterprise-grade encryption, enabling enterprise to run mission critical workloads.

Cloud DNS

Cloud DNS is Google’s high-performance, managed DNS solution for user-facing applications and services. Cloud DNS allows customers to host millions of zones and records and handles SLA-backed name-serving queries. Cloud DNS is generally available today and starts at $.40/million queries.

Global Load Balancing

With new 12 additional points of presence in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Seattle, Dallas, Miami, London, Paris, Stockholm, Munich, Madrid, and Lisbon, users will be closer in proximity to Google Cloud Platform reducing latency and giving users fast and responsive applications.

Beta Cloud VPN

Google Cloud VPN allows users to connect their existing network to a Compute Engine network. VPN is currently in beta testing.

Carrier Interconnect Providers

Google also announced that it has 11 additional Carrier Interconnect Providers that help extend its reach to customer locations around the world. These new partners include: 1Cloudstar, Colt, CyrusOne, EUnetwroks, Global Capacity, Global Cloud Exchange, International Internet Exchange, InterCloud, Masergy, Megaport, and PCCW Global.
