HP Acquires Teradici

Today HP Inc. announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Teradici Corporation. Teradici just joined us on our podcast to go over the expanding remote workforce and the use of PCoIP. HP states that the acquisition will enhance its Personal Systems by delivering new compute models and services tailored for hybrid work.

Remote work blew up in the last two years. While remote and hybrid work had been growing (and is more common in other parts of the world), the global pandemic really had it take off. While some are back in the office, remote and hybrid work will be the way of the future. Through HP’s internal research, they see two-thirds of workers working from home at least a few days a week.

Teradici has been around for nearly 20 years. The company developed the PC-over-IP protocol and has been heavily used by others such as VMware and AWS. This technology was expanded into hardware like thin and zero clients for VDI use over the years, used by several of the major vendors. While the company had a handful of physical products it is mostly known for its software.

HP has been at the forefront of remote work with its HP ZCentral Remote Boost. As Tom said, HP ZCentral Remote Boost is a lightweight connection manager geared specifically for ZCentral Remote Boost. With ZCentral Connect, HP has become the only IT company that is the single product line source for all the hardware and software for a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) environment. The entire VDI stack has been designed from the ground up, and perhaps more importantly supported by HP.

The acquisition of Teradici by HP will bring the former’s skill and experience to the latter. HP can expand the remote solutions it has to offer its customers. It can now reach even more devices.

The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2021, pending regulatory review and other customary closing conditions. Sadly, we weren’t given the financial details of the acquisition.
