This is not the first product Pivot3 has offered based on Lenovo’s servers. They have an entire line of surveillance servers running on Lenovo ThinkSystem computers. What makes Pivot3’s new server special, is its processor. The SR655 uses a second-generation AMD EPYC processor. Lenovo only has one model of the SR655 currently, so the processor will probably be an AMD EPYC 7302P running at 3.0GHz. Pivot3 has confirmed that they are planning on using only one single-socket CPU, which matches with the AMD EPYC 7302P.

Lenovo’s ThinkSystem SR655 comes in a 2U form factor. According to Lenovo, the system has eight PCIe rear slots, one OCP 3.0 adapter slot, and one PCIe x8 internal slot. Unfortunately, Pivot3 has not told us how many of those slots they plan to use, or in what configuration. The Lenovo server supports a maximum of thirty-two NVMe drives with 1:2 connections. Pivot3’s current AMD surveillance and storage appliance offers between 32TB and 256TB of storage, so we can probably expect them to provide a range of options for this new one as well. Pivot3 has told us that they’re networking choice will provide 25GbE of bandwidth.
