PernixData FVP Flash Hypervisor Announced

by storagereview

PernixData FVP, the first flash hypervisor for virtual data centers is being announced for general release beginning August 6th. By virtualizing server side flash into a clustered acceleration tier, the new technology enables a fast, cost-efficient way to scale-out storage performance, independent of storage capacity. Read and write performance is said to be brought to a level previously unreachable within the VM infrastructure with no changes to existing server and storage configuration. Using a very simple point and click install process, PernixData FVP can be setup and running in minutes, and it allows IT administrators to aggregate server-side flash into clusters that are available across multiple VMs.

Using a very simple point and click install process, PernixData FVP can be setup and running in minutes, and it allows IT administrators to aggregate server-side flash into clusters that are available across multiple VMs.

Clustering the server-side flash using this software, IT teams can dramatically increase performance without changes to the storage architecture. PernixData FVP can be completely installed in under 20 minutes with no changes or reboots required for VMs, servers, or primary storage.

Using Flash Cluster, PernixData allows any host to access the flash devices on any other host in the cluster, and it seamlessly supports all VMware operations and products such as vMotion, DRS, HA, Snapshot, VDP, Site Recovery Manager, Horizon View and vCloud Director. Furthermore, it’s the only product to support full read and write (write through/write back) acceleration across all virtual applications. Performance increases are linear: with 2 hosts, the increase is about 2.4x, with 4 hosts 4.8x, and with 6 hosts performance increases about 7x compared to not using FVP.

Pricing and Availability

Pricing for the Enterprise level is set at $7500 per host (unlimited hosts/VMs). Additional packages are forthcoming for SMB and Service Providers.
