This SSD offers incredible speed and reliability in a small package. While the Sabrent Rocket 2242 is a DRAM-less SSD the utilization of the Phison Controller makes it an excellent solution for demanding users who need a high-performance SSD that comes in a unique form factor. ![Sabrent Rocket 2242]() These drives are shipping now in 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities. The 1TB version in our review carries a street price of [$120 at Amazon](https://amzn.to/3Z8YjlD). ## Compact Storage Impressive Performance The Sabrent Rocket 2242 SSD is one of the first to market in this form factor that is a non-OEM drive. It boasts low power consumption, and relatively high speed, and comes with a 5-year warranty, which is a significant advantage compared to other OEM or grey market 2242 SSDs you can find from the usual suspects. However, you must register the product within 90 days of purchase to take advantage of this warranty, making it important to keep this in mind. ![Sabrent Rocket 2242 upright]() Additionally, the Sabrent Rocket 2242 SSD is built on TLC NAND flash memory, which ensures superior build quality, durability, and reliability is NVMe 1.3 compliant with APST/ASPM/L1.2 power management support and supports SMART, TRIM, and firmware updates with wide flash compatibility. Powering the drive is a Phison PS5013-E13 controller. ![Sabrent Rocket 2242 back]() Worth mentioning is that it comes with Sabrent Acronis True Image for Sabrent, a free and simple-to-use cloning software. This makes it easy to transfer data from your old storage device to your new Sabrent SSD and use this as a drop-in replacement or upgrade for your device, [something we utilized for our Lenovo x13s](https://www.storagereview.com/review/lenovo-thinkpad-x13s-snapdragon-review). ## Benchmarking With a performance advertised of up to 2,500/2,100 MB/s Seq. Read/Write, and total bytes written endurance of up to 1,710TB, the Sabrent Rocket 2242 SSD delivers impressive speeds in this category and capacity options up to 2TB. The dimensions of the SSD are 1.70 in. in length, 0.86 in. in width, 0.11 in. in height, and weighs only 0.2 oz., making it a perfect choice for users who need a storage solution that is small and compact. ![]() Once installed inside a Lenovo x13s, we measured read speeds of 2,335MB/s and write speeds of 1,933MB/s which weren’t too far off from the spec sheet values. While it won’t hit records compared to the full-size offerings, it does offer strong performance for systems that require a smaller footprint SSD. ![]() While performance isn’t really the biggest part of this drive’s value proposition, it is an important consideration. When we see most 2230 and 2242 OEM SSDs show up in thin and light notebooks, for instance, they’re typically not very fast. ![]() ## Conclusion The Sabrent Rocket 2242 SSD is a great small form factor SSD alternative that offers a nice blend of reliability and performance for this category of storage. With its free Acronis True Image software making the swap a breeze, and a 5-year warranty for peace of mind, it’s an excellent investment for those who need an upgraded storage solution that won’t let them down. ![]() The SSD is available in 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB of storage in a 2242 form factor, making it an excellent choice for users who require high-capacity storage in a compact package. Additionally, benchmark tests have shown reasonable speed results, further validating the Sabrent 2242 SSD as a great alternative to grey market 2242 SSDs.
