Today, Alluxio announced the addition of Alluxio Structured Data Service (SDS) to Alluxio 2.2. SDS features data catalog and transformation services. The company develops open-source data orchestration software for the cloud and has done so since 2014. Version 2 of their eponymous Alluxio software was released just last year.

Alluxio 2.2

Alluxio Structured Data Service introduces just-in-time data transformation of data to be compute-optimized, independent of the storage format. It currently supports both Presto, Apache Spark, and Apache Hive. SDS can also fuse multiple small files into one database to allow for more efficient analytic operations. Recognizing that some searches need to be run repeatedly, Alluxio SDS can also sort existing database entries to make frequent queries more efficient.

At the same time, Alluxio is also adding a new Presto connector. Presto is a distributed SQL query engine. The new connector will make it easier to use Alluxio’s new and existing features with Presto.
