The new system will come with a free one-year subscription to Arlo Smart Premier, that the company says will give users a more personalized, intelligent smart home security experience, powered by Arlo’s sophisticated AI and computer vision technologies.

Arlo has proven to be a useful and popular home security system over the last few years. The company continues to improve its flagship product this year by adding a new 4K image sensor with HDR image processing. The Arlo Ultra can capture video in up to 4K quality. This can lead to critical details being captured in the event of a security issues arising. Not only is the quality improved, but with the HDR feature users can zoom in on video clips to provide crucial details like license plate numbers. The cameras also have an panoramic 180-degree diagonal field of view, delivering a side field of view that gives users more deployment flexibility. Unlike the previous versions of the cameras, the new ones have a built in spotlight for even better video capture at night.

The last iteration of Arlo cameras introduced two-way audio. The Arlo Ultra improves on the audio with dual-microphones that come with advanced noise cancellation that Arlo states will minimize background noise and will accentuate foreground audio. This will deliver a better two-way audio experience.

Arlo didn’t stop the revamp with just the cameras. The Arlo SmartHub had undergone a makeover as well. The hub has an extended WiFi range for the cameras, manages data traffic to and from the camera out to the user’s cloud account, and offers a more secure dedicated IOT network for the devices connected to the Arlo SmartHub. The previous hubs came with USB for extended storage while the new SmartHub leverages microSD cards.

As always the cameras are easy to mount nearly anywhere they are needed. They are wire-free and weather resistant for indoor/outdoor use. The Arlo Ultra cameras come with a new rechargeable battery as well as a weather-resistant, magnetic charging cable. And the siren is included in the new version as well.

Availability and Pricing

The new Arlo Ultra is expected to hit the market in the first quarter of 2019 and will come with the starting price of $399.99 for a 1-camera system and a free one-year subscription to Arlo Smart Premier, a $119.88 value.
