Eaton Announces Hot-Swap Fuse Capability For Its ePDUs

by Adam Armstrong

Today Eaton Corporation announced that it was adding in a new patented fuse disconnect option to its third-generation (G3) ePDU platform. The new fuse disconnect model address a common challenge of 400-volt power distribution – offering higher amp interrupt capacity and the ability to clear higher fault currents. Eaton fuse disconnect models provide up to 100 Kilo Ampere Interrupting Capacity (KAIC) fault current protection and a current limiting capability, which offers an advantage over circuit breakers by protecting equipment downstream. This latest addition builds on Eaton’s already powerful line of rack power distribution units (PDUs).

IT managers use circuit breakers because traditional fuse require PDUs to be unplugged when the fuse needs to be changed or replaced. Eaton’s new ePDU G3 fuse disconnect models utilizes Eaton’s Bussmann low profile Compact Circuit Protector to allow users to safely replace fuses without disconnecting power. Now IT can use fuses for better power protection without the worry of downtime to replace one.

The new ePDU G3 fuse disconnect models will be offered along with Eaton’s other ePDUs including the basic, Metered Input, Metered Outlet, and Managed models. And the new models will come with the same award winning features of the other ePDU G3. At StorageReview we use several ePDU G3 in our lab. We found these ePDUs to be easy to install and manage, and they work well with our virtualized environments with their wide hypervisor support.
