SolarWinds Updates SRM & SAM Both To 6.6

by Adam Armstrong

Today, SolarWinds updated two of its monitoring solutions. The company updated Storage Resource Monitor (SRM) to version 6.6 adding support to even more all-flash arrays (AFA) including Dell EMC Unity, HPE Nimble, IBM and INFINIDAT. SolarWinds updated its Server & Application Monitor (SAM) to version 6.6 now allowing for deeper visibility into how severs, running mission-critical applications, interact with one another.

IT infrastructure is growing ever more complex with a heterogeneous environment that has different parts that must work together. IT needs deeper visibility into critical infrastructure to ensure it is getting the performance it needs, troubleshoot any issues, or proactively find an issue and correct it before it causes a problem. The two updated monitoring solutions give IT admins with all the tools they need such as broad system management, monitoring, alerting and reporting functionality.

SolarWinds SRM allows customers to look into multi-vendor storage and is built off of the company’s Orion Platform. SRM 6.6 expands support for several other storage systems: HPE Nimble Storage, Dell EMC Unity, INFINIDAT InfiniBox, and IBM AIX FlashSystem 9000 all-flash arrays. This means that customers can monitor an even broader mix of storage and have more choice. With the above-mentioned systems, this update is particularly helpful to mid-sized companies.

For application monitoring, SolarWinds offers its SAM, now in 6.6. This monitoring solution enables visibility and performance monitoring of server and applications across multiple data centers, remote locations, or the cloud. The new update centers around the ability to automatically discover network-based relationships, between applications and servers. IT admins will be able to monitor server and network metrics of specific application connections within an environment seeing metrics such as packet loss, latency, network status, and more. This should speed up troubleshooting for applications. SAM 6.6 also features a new SolarWinds Orion Agent for IBM AIX.

The two monitoring solutions are deeply integrated, allowing for the mapping from application and virtualization through storage.
