# NVIDIA and Intel Announce Strategic Collaboration to Advance Data Center and PC Computing

by Harold Fritts on September 18, 2025

In a move that highlights the shifting landscape of the computing industry, NVIDIA and Intel Corporation have announced a multi-generational partnership to develop custom products for both data center and client markets. This collaboration combines NVIDIA’s leadership in AI and accelerated computing with Intel’s decades of CPU innovation and strong x86 ecosystem, setting the stage for a new era of heterogeneous computing.

![NVIDIA and Intel collaboration]()

The partnership spans the entire computing stack, hyperscale infrastructure, enterprise workloads, and consumer devices, reflecting how AI-driven acceleration is no longer a niche requirement but a foundation for performance computing everywhere.

## **NVIDIA NVLink to Bridge Two Giants**

At the core of the partnership is seamless architectural integration. Using NVIDIA NVLink, the industry-leading high-bandwidth interconnect, future platforms will combine NVIDIA’s GPUs and accelerators with Intel’s CPUs, allowing tighter integration than the traditional CPU-to-GPU setup. For data center operators, this could lead to lower latency, higher bandwidth efficiency, and new performance scaling options across AI training and inference clusters.

NVIDIA NVLink Fusion technology is the cornerstone of this collaboration and will serve as the high-speed interconnect fabric between NVIDIA’s accelerated computing platforms and Intel’s custom x86 CPUs. This advanced interconnect surpasses traditional PCIe, offering ultra-high bandwidth, low latency, and direct peer-to-peer communication between CPUs and GPUs. For data center environments, NVLink fusion enables large AI models to access vast memory pools more efficiently, thereby reducing data bottlenecks and significantly accelerating training times and inference throughput. On the client side, this tight coupling allows for unprecedented data sharing and synchronization between integrated CPU and GPU components within the new x86 RTX SoCs. This unlocks new levels of performance for AI-powered applications, real-time graphics rendering, and complex simulations directly on the PC. This deep architectural integration is designed to eliminate traditional performance barriers, ensuring that both CPU and GPU resources are optimally utilized for the most demanding workloads.

The ability to bind accelerators and CPUs at this level also hints at platform-level co-optimization, where NVIDIA’s CUDA and software frameworks can leverage Intel’s cache, memory, and scheduling architectures more efficiently than before. The result promises a better total cost of ownership (TCO) and higher utilization of compute resources, which are critical for hyperscale deployments.

### **Data Center Impact: Custom Intel CPUs for NVIDIA AI Infrastructure**

Intel will develop NVIDIA-custom x86 CPUs that are directly integrated into NVIDIA’s AI infrastructure platforms for data centers. This marks a key milestone, as it shifts Intel into the CPU-for-accelerator market, which ARM and custom silicon efforts previously led. Consequently, data centers will gain access to servers with closer silicon integration of CPU and GPU, a design approach previously used by hyperscalers but now commercially available through NVIDIA-Intel platforms.

Such integrations could provide tangible benefits in AI training throughput, better memory bandwidth alignment, and optimized inter-node scaling, reducing the complexity and overhead typically associated with heterogeneous computing.

### **Consumer PCs: Intel SOCs with NVIDIA RTX GPU Chiplets**

On the client side, Intel will introduce x86 system-on-chips (SoCs) that include [NVIDIA RTX GPU](https://www.storagereview.com/news/nvidia-rtx-pro-servers-gain-broad-enterprise-adoption) chiplets, effectively bringing workstation-class graphics and AI power into mainstream PCs. This development addresses the rapidly increasing demand for AI-enabled PCs (AIPC), systems designed to handle local inference, generative AI workloads, and graphically demanding applications without relying solely on the cloud.

The implications here are wide-ranging. By utilizing Intel’s integrated CPU roadmap and NVIDIA’s modular RTX GPU architecture, OEMs have a scalable way to deliver AI-ready features to consumer devices, thin clients, and corporate PCs alike. Whether for gaming, content creation, or enterprise productivity enhanced by AI, these RTX-enabled SoCs could change market expectations of what a “baseline PC” can accomplish.

### **A Shared Vision of Transformation**

NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang equated AI to the catalyst of a new industrial revolution, emphasizing that CUDA and accelerated computing form the core of future workloads. By aligning with Intel, Huang highlighted, NVIDIA can extend its architectures across the universal x86 ecosystem, ensuring that AI’s transformative power can be realized at all levels of computing.

Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan underscored confidence in Intel’s data center and client roadmaps, framing the partnership not just as a collaboration of necessity but as a deliberate attempt to drive breakthrough innovation and growth across the computing segments. Together, both leaders cast the partnership as foundational, not transactional, signaling that deeper architectural alignment will likely emerge in subsequent product generations.

### **Strategic Investment**

Strengthening the alliance further, NVIDIA will invest $5 billion in Intel’s common stock at a purchase price of $23.28 per share. Beyond the financial support, this serves as a symbolic vote of confidence in Intel’s long-term execution and its alignment with NVIDIA’s vision for accelerated computing. While still awaiting regulatory approval, the investment indicates both sides’ intention to secure not only engineering collaboration but also shared market outcomes.

### **Why This Matters**

This collaboration occurs when heterogeneous computing becomes essential. As AI workloads continue to grow rapidly and enterprises strive to enhance performance while minimizing energy consumption and costs, CPU-GPU co-optimization is crucial for next-generation data centers. Intel establishes a strong position in AI-specific deployments, challenging the idea of losing ground to ARM-based architectures. Meanwhile, NVIDIA maintains access to the world’s widest enterprise ecosystem and expands CUDA’s dominance onto x86-based platforms.

For technical buyers, integrators, and enterprise architects, the NVIDIA-Intel collaboration marks the emergence of new reference architectures where CPUs and GPUs are not merely bolted together, but instead engineered in lockstep. On the client side, the x86+RTX SoCs can accelerate the mainstreaming of AI PCs, reshaping procurement decisions in both corporate IT and consumer markets.

NVIDIA and Intel’s partnership isn’t just about hardware; it’s about transforming the computing landscape from hyperscale cloud to the personal desktop. By integrating NVLink, CUDA, and RTX with Intel’s x86 CPUs and SoCs, the companies provide both enterprises and consumers with a new range of systems optimized for the AI age.
