HPE Aims To Grow Smart Cities

Today at HPE Discover 2017 in Las Vegas, Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) showcased its partnerships in creating and expanding smart cities. HPE is partnering with Tata Communications to convert the “Steel City” of Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, India, to a smart city. HPE is also partnering with PwC (a long time global strategic alliance partner) to bring its Universal IoT Platform to support development, testing, and management initiatives of IoT applications in PwC’s Smart Cities Experience Center.

HP Thin Client Conversion Suite Announced

At Citrix Synergy 2017, HP has unveiled the new HP Thin Client Conversion Suite, software designed to accelerate the transition from traditional local computing strategies to a new VDI or other cloud-centric solutions.  HP’s new software suite repurposes older PCs into thin client solutions that support a range of backend systems. It also does this while maintaining the existing operating system, which helps to reduce risk and lower costs for training and hardware.

Commvault has announced the availability of its VM Backup and Recovery trial software for customers and partners, citing substantial enhancements to user experience, disaster recovery and cloud on-ramp features. HPE Accelerates Its ITOM Through Containers

Today Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) announced that it has launched containerized versions of its HPE IT Operations Management (ITOM) suites. HPE states that these new containerized ITOM suites will be able to accelerate and streamline the continuous operations of customers’ hybrid cloud and on-premise operational environments. The four suites include Hybrid Cloud Management, Data Center Automation, Operations Bridge, and IT Service Management Automation. The suites will be delivered using Docker containers and will feature native container lifecycle management functions to ease their introduction.

At StorageReview we tend to talk highly of Synology’s operating system, DiskStation Manager (DSM). Many of us here have used, or currently use DSM on either a professional or personal level. Though we’ve reviewed numerous NAS devices from Synology, as well as a few of their applications (Surveillance Station and Cloud Sync), we had yet to actually take a deeper look into the OS itself.
