We’ve consistently seen object-based appliances gain favor for backup and recovery because they simplify operations while hardening environments against ransomware. Against that backdrop, Object First continues to lean into its Veeam-first design point with new offerings aimed at smaller sites and distributed teams, without compromising the security posture expected in enterprise deployments. ### Ootbi Mini: Immutable, Ransomware-Proof Storage for ROBO, Edge, and SMB [Object First](https://www.storagereview.com/review/inside-object-first-how-simple-immutable-backup-scales-from-edge-to-enterprise) announced Ootbi (Out-of-the-Box Immutability) Mini, a compact immutable storage appliance purpose-built for remote and branch offices, edge locations, and small businesses that rely on Veeam. Available in 8TB, 16TB, and 24TB capacities, Ootbi Mini offers the same enterprise-grade security model, operational simplicity, and Veeam-native experience as the larger Ootbi systems, all in a desktop-friendly form factor. No traditional data center is required. ![Object First Ootbi Mini]() Ootbi Mini is designed around Zero Trust principles with absolute immutability. Administrators cannot modify firmware, the OS, the storage layer, or backup data, closing off common attack vectors and insider-risk scenarios. In practice, this means ransomware resilience without requiring specialized security expertise. The appliance maintains the straightforward OOBE and management experience Ootbi is known for, with tight Veeam integration so backup admins can get up and running quickly. Procurement is flexible. Customers can choose a CapEx purchase or a consumption-based subscription. The Object First value proposition: - Security-first design for Veeam environments, with immutability enforced below the admin plane. - Right-sized capacities for edge and branch, reducing overprovisioning while maintaining recoverability SLAs. - Simplified deployment and operations that reduce the need for specialized staff on-site. - Commercial flexibility to align with budget cycles or OpEx preferences. ### Ootbi Honeypot: Early Threat Detection for Veeam Backup & Replication Alongside Ootbi Mini, Object First introduced Ootbi Honeypot in version 1.7. It’s a lightweight, two-click decoy that spins up a segmented Veeam Backup & Replication (VBR) environment on Ootbi. The Honeypot serves as an early-warning tripwire. When suspicious behavior is detected, it immediately alerts through the customer’s preferred channels. Because it runs in a securely isolated segment, it provides the signal without increasing the attack surface. Key takeaways: - Rapid deployment with minimal operational overhead. - Purpose-built to detect behaviors that target VBR specifically. - Integrated alerting for faster incident response. - No-cost feature for existing Ootbi customers on version 1.7. This approach complements Ootbi’s immutability by shifting detection left, catching adversary activity earlier in the kill chain, before it can reach production backup data. #### Ootbi Fleet Manager Beta: Centralized Visibility Across Deployments Object First also announced a beta for Ootbi Fleet Manager, a cloud-based console that enables monitoring of the entire Ootbi estate from a single dashboard. Users can organize clusters according to their operational model (regions, business units, or tiers) and drill into granular monitoring and reporting across devices. The dashboard provides hardware health, utilization, and a summarized footprint view, making capacity planning and compliance reporting more efficient. For distributed organizations and MSPs, Fleet Manager promises: - A single pane of glass for multi-site Ootbi environments. - Customizable organization schemes that mirror business structure. - Health, utilization, and status data that inform proactive maintenance and forecasting. Current customers can sign up for Ootbi Fleet Manager beta to get early access and help shape the roadmap. David Bennett, CEO of Object First, underscored the company’s mission to make ransomware-proof backups simple, powerful, and accessible to all Veeam users. He highlighted how Ootbi Mini extends that mission to edge and SMB use cases, while Honeypot elevates early threat detection, and Fleet Manager improves operational oversight. In short: reduce complexity, harden defenses, and increase visibility—without burdening IT teams. #### Availability Ootbi Mini is now orderable via CapEx or subscription, with deliveries scheduled to begin in January 2026. Honeypot is included at no cost for current Ootbi customers on version 1.7. Fleet Manager is available via a customer beta program.
