Datera Announces 240% Growth For H1 2018
Datera is reported a very good first half of 2018 with 240% growth. This growth includes 133% increase in new customer acquisitions. This year also saw the latest release of the company’s platform to version 3.2.
Cloudian Announces Largest Funding Round Yet
For its Series E funding, Cloudian is reporting its largest haul yet with $94 million, bringing its total to $173 million. Participants include Digital Alpha, Eight Roads Ventures, Goldman Sachs, INCJ, JPIC (Japan Post Investment Corporation), NTT DOCOMO Ventures, Inc. and WS (Wilson Sonsini) Investments. The company intends to use the funds to expand sales worldwide, expand marketing efforts, and increase the engineering time.
Dell EMC To Power The Fastest Academic Supercomputer
The Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) will build the largest university supercomputer and one of the world’s most powerful, named Frontera. Dell EMC will provide the primary computing system. The new supercomputer will begin operating in 2019 and will allows research into all fields of study, from astrophysics to zoology, enabling simulation and modeling, artificial intelligence, and data analytics at the largest scales.
Lenovo & Pivot3 Optimize Smart City Security
Lenovo and Pivot3 are partnering to create a new set of edge computing solutions designed for mission-critical smart city security. The partnership results in an integrations between Lenovo ThinkSystem servers that will be powered by Pivot3 HCI software. While smarty cities are a growing market, the largest growth is in security. The new solutions from both companies will give security a way to access any camera across the city.
infinite io Raises $10.3M In Series B Funding
infinite io announced that it was able to raise another $10.3 million in Series B funding. This round of funding was lead by former Motorola CEO and Cleversafe Chairman Chris Galvin, and Chris Galvin’s son David of Three Fish Capital and formerly of IBM. It also includes capital from Chicago Ventures, John Anderson, Dougherty and Company, Equus Holdings, and PV Ventures. The company intends to use the funds to scale operations globally.
NVIDIA GPU Cloud Adds Support For Azure
Microsoft Azure announced that it now supports NVIDIA GPU Cloud (NGC) platform. This support takes those that need to leverage graphics-intensive work such as AI and HPC, will now have yet another platform to work with. NGC provides ready-to-run, pre-figured containers that can now be used on Azure.
Dell EMC PowerEdge Servers Obtain EPEAT Registry
Dell EMC announced that the Green Electronics Council expanded its Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) registry to include a server category and several Dell EMC PowerEdge servers are on that registry. That means the PowerEdge servers meet the requirements of the following sustainability categories:
- Energy efficiency
- Management of substances
- Preferable material use
- Product packaging
- Design for repair, reuse and recycling
- Product longevity
- Responsible end-of-life management
QNAP Releases QTS 4.3.5 Beta
QNAP announced that it has released a new beta, 4.3.5, for its popular OS, QTS. New features include:
- SSD extra over-provisioning
- Revamped Network & Virtual Switch app
- New Notification Center app
- New Security Counselor app
- Seagate IronWolf Health Management support
The beta is available now.
DDN Completes Acquisition Of Tintri
After making their intent known back in July, DataDirect Networks (DDN) has officially completed its acquisition of Tintri, Inc. DDN acquired the other company for $60 million. DDN intends to restart Tintri’s service and support in the coming weeks and announce a new company roadmap within 90 days.
