Today at GTC in Santa Clara, NVIDIA announced the first secure SmartNIC that is optimized for 25G, the NVIDIA Mellanox ConnectX-6 Lx SmartNIC. Designed to provide advanced network offloads to accelerate cloud and enterprise workloads, the new SmartNIC is highly secure and able to hit 25/50Gb/s speeds.

Today NVIDA announced its intent to acquire Cumulus Networks. NVIDIA isn’t exactly on an acquisition frenzy, but they did recently acquire Mellanox as well. While the Mellanox deal went for just shy of $7 billion, there doesn’t seem to be a word yet on the price tag of Cumulus.

Today, Cumulus Networks released the latest version of NetQ, 3.0. NetQ is a realtime network monitoring and analytics tool. JR Rivers and Nolan Leake founded Cumulus Networks in 2010. NetQ is one of their two main products. The other is an open-source Linux (Debian based) operating system for network switches.

Cisco and Google made a joint announcement. They are hoping to release a turnkey networking solution that currently has the very long name of: Cisco SD-WAN (Software Defined-Wide Area Network) Cloud Hub with Google Cloud. Today Marvell announced the enablement of NVMe over Fabrics (NVMe-oF) for VMware vSphere 7.0. This is done through the company’s QLogic Fibre Channel and FastLinQ Ethernet adapter solutions. The integration of the above offering brings low latency, high-performance flash int vSphere as its need for capacity and bandwidth grow.

At the end of the last year, Cisco announced its intention to acquire Exablaze. Now that the acquisition has gone through, the two companies are beginning to integrate. The bulk of this integration is centered around the Exablaze engineering team that will be integrated into the Cisco data center organization.

Today, SoftIron Ltd. announced their next-generation top-of-rack switch, SoftIron HyperSwitch. This new series of switches is built around maximizing the performance and flexibility of SONiC (Software for Open Networking in the Cloud). Today, Mellanox began shipping their newest ethernet switches to customers.  The new switches belong to the SN4000 family and are powered by the company’s own scalable 12.8 Tbps Ethernet switch ASIC, Spectrum 3. Mellanox was founded in 1999 and provides data center network solutions. NVIDIA is in the process of buying Mellanox for $6.9 billion.

Today during Cisco Live! Barcelona, Cisco made several announcements. At the event, with nearly 20K attendees, Cisco unveiled and demonstrated its newest technologies that focused on IoT cybersecurity, networking, and collaboration with AI. The even runs through January 31, at Fira de Barcelona in Spain.
