Today at VMworld 2019 in San Francisco, Dell Technologies announced new advancements around its Dell Technologies Cloud. These including support for VMware PKS, supporting the ability to deploy, run, and manage Kubernetes alongside traditional applications. The company is announcing Dell Technologies Cloud Validated Designs. As announced by VMware, Dell’s fully managed Data Center as-a-Service (DCaaS), VMware Cloud on Dell EMC, is now available. And Dell Technologies has a new flexible consumptions model that allows for customers to pay-for-what-you-use.
Today at VMworld 2019 in San Francisco, Dell Technologies announced new advancements around its Dell Technologies Cloud. These including support for VMware PKS, supporting the ability to deploy, run, and manage Kubernetes alongside traditional applications. The company is announcing Dell Technologies Cloud Validated Designs. As announced by VMware, Dell’s fully managed Data Center as-a-Service (DCaaS), VMware Cloud on Dell EMC, is now available. And Dell Technologies has a new flexible consumptions model that allows for customers to pay-for-what-you-use.
The Hybrid Cloud offers several benefits to the user around performance, storage, economics, and the ability to hit compliance with certain regulatory needs. However according to ESG, when companies consider the switch, more than half need seamless compatibility with their on-premises infrastructure. Noting this, Dell Technologies Cloud is helping ease the concerns by rolling out cloud infrastructure that combines the power of VMware cloud software and Dell EMC infrastructure.
Another fast-growing technology is Kubernetes. While virtualized applications aren’t going anywhere any time soon, alongside them cloud-native application development is happening. Since users need both, Dell Technologies Cloud now supports both with the support of automated deployment of VMware PKS on Dell EMC VxRail. This adds integrated support of Kubernetes and containers. Now customers will have a one stop shop for their traditional and cloud-native workloads in Dell Technologies Cloud Platforms.
When organizations want to build their cloud infrastructure, it is good to have pre-tested designs to work off of. That is exactly what Dell Technologies Cloud Validated Designs offer. These designs consist of pre- tested infrastructure with deployment guidance using Dell EMC best-of-breed compute, storage and networking, validated with VMware Cloud Foundation. The Validated Designs include:
- Dell Technologies Cloud Validated Designs for Dell EMC PowerMax and Dell EMC Unity storage arrays – Dell EMC storage arrays are the first to be validated with VMware Cloud foundation for using Fibre Channel as primary storage, within workload domains, in addition to the Network File System (NFS) protocol. This offers customers deployment flexibility for workloads that have unique external storage-specific requirements including independent capacity and advanced features such as integrated data protection.
- Dell Technologies Cloud Validated Designs for Dell EMC PowerEdge MX servers – With VMware Cloud Foundation interoperability, administrators can now gain maximum resource utilization, enabled by PowerEdge MX servers and OpenManage Enterprise – Modular Edition, allowing customers to dynamically provision storage and assign workloads to individual drives as needed
Dell Technologies is also announcing that its DCaaS offering, VMware Cloud on Dell EMC is now available. We have also covered the new here. Something of note here, on the Dell EMC side, is the leveraging of VxRail that is the foundation of VMware Cloud on Dell EMC. The latest version of VxRail has had several updates that include:
- Latest Intel and Dell EMC PowerEdge server technologies deliver enhanced performance (up to 28%) and reduced latency (up to 30%)
- Fiber Channel connectivity options support additional IO intensive and storage dense workloads on VxRail clusters
- New NVIDIA GPU options for graphics, machine learning, virtual data center workstation and universal use deliver rich, immersive user experiences
- Common Criteria certification assures security best practices are met throughout the development process.
Dell Technologies Cloud is now offering flexible consumption options. Through Flex on Demand, customers will only have to pay for the technology they use. This will including elastic capacity and buffer capacity, as Flex on Demand is able to adjust payment on the utilized capacity. Now companies can grow more quickly by only paying for resources used.
Availability
- Dell Technologies Cloud Platforms with VMware PKS on Cloud Foundation on Dell EMC VxRail has planned global availability in September 2019.
- Dell Technologies Cloud Validated Designs are now available globally with support for Dell EMC PowerMax and Dell EMC Unity XT storage arrays and Dell EMC PowerEdge MX servers.
- Dell Technologies Cloud Data Center-as-a-Service, delivered as VMware Cloud on Dell EMC, is now entering initial availability in the US. Dell EMC Data Protection for VMware Cloud on Dell EMC also is available as an option.
