Today EMC announced updates to their VNX-F all flash array.  The new updates are the VNX-F5000 and the VNX-F7000 models that are designed for mission-critical apps that need their own dedicated storage arrays. The new offerings deliver higher density at lower entry prices and are targeted for both physical and virtualized application environments.

The VNX-F models are high performing unified storage, preconfigured with a single storage pool and RAID 5 protection. They are block-only (Fibre Channel, FCoE or iSCSI) designed for five nines availability. They run EMC Unisphere Management Suite that includes QoS Manager, this centrialized management simplifies administration. The VNX-F is also highly optimized for virtual environments, with tight integration with both VMware and Microsoft Hyper-V environments.

The VNX-F5000 starts as low as 2.8TB and scales up to 40TB. At less than $5/GB, the VNX-F5000 provides a new lower price point. The VNX-F7000 can scale all the way up to 172TB of all-flash storage, with a 3U shelf that features a highly-dense 120 flash drive configuration.

Key specs include:

  • Uses VNX MCx multicore optimization for high performance and low latency
  • Supports Fibre Channel, FCoE, and iSCSI block protocols
  • Preconfigured with a single storage pool and RAID 5 (8+1) protection
  • Optimized for VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V
  • Available with enhanced and premium service options
  • 2 Intel Xeon 8-Core 5600/128 GB CPU per array

Availability

Both new VNX-F models are available now, scaling up to 40TB. The 120-drive dense shelf arrays are expected to ship later this year and the 1.6TB SSDs enabling the VNX-F to scale up to 172TB will be available soon.
