Lenovo Says Remote Work is New Normal

In an announcement earlier today, Lenovo called remote work the “new, smarter normal.” To help companies deal with remote work being the new normal, Lenovo also announced plans for improvements and additions to most of their ThinkAgile Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI) lines, some of which won’t be available until near the end of the year.

The first of the new devices to be released is the Diamanti SR630. Lenovo collaborated with Diamanti to offer the Diamanti SR630. Diamanti provides their Diamanti Spektra operating system, which recently released a 3.0 version. Lenovo provides hardware in the form of servers from the ThinkSystem family.

Lenovo’s new additions to their ThinkAgile VX HCI line are due out later this month. The additions include four socket (4S) certified nodes with up to 6TB of memory available for SAP HANA. 6TB is twice what the current models can provide. ThinkAgile VX’s 1U and 2U units currently cap out at 3TB of memory. Like the existing models, the new one(s) will use Lenovo Xclarity as the management console.

Lenovo’s additions to the ThinkAgile HX line still need a little more time in the oven and aren’t expected out until late November. When the HX3375 (pictured above) and HX 3376 are released, they will be the first Lenovo ThingAgile HX HCI model to run on AMD CPUs. The new model is expected to use two-socked AMD EPYC processors, joining many other data center HW providers in offering AMD-based models. The new model is expected to be available in a wide range of core counts, up to 128 cores, more than twice the current intel offerings. Memory is also expected to increase with the AMD boards able to support 204GBs of memory compared to 140GBs on the current board. All models are expected to have two GPUs per unit.

Lenovo also announced plans to offer consumption-based (pay-as-you-go) pricing of Azure Stack HCI and Azure Stack Hub.
