Walton Chaintech Apogee SSD Convertor Turns CF Cards Into a 2.5″ SSD

Walton Chaintech has launched an interesting product in the SSD space. The Apogee SSD Convertor takes up to two CompactFlash cards, in RAID 0 or RAID1 no less, and mounts them in a standard 2.5" form factor with SATA II connector. The end result is a pseudo SSD that offers "blazingly fast" transfer speeds.

Kingston Second Generation SSDNow V-Series Released

Kingston has announced the second generation of their SSDNow V-Series. The latest generation adds TRIM support and a modest performance gain, and comes in 30GB, 64GB and 128GB sizes. The good news is that the drive MSRPs remain the same as the current V-series drives and the V-Series 2 will be available starting February 15th.

Seagate Ships 600GB 2.5″ Savvio 10K.4 (ST9600204SS)

Seagate has announced their latest 2.5" enterprise hard drive, the 600GB Savvio 10K.4 (model #ST9600204SS). Aside from offering the highest capacity in the 2.5" form factor, Seagate is also claiming the most reliable crown too, with 2 million hour MTBF.

TDK Developing 2.5TB 3.5″ HDDs, 640GB Per Platter

TDK is reportedly developing 3.5-inch hard drive platters with a capacity of 640GB each; current platters of the same size top off at 500GB. With 640GB platters, a four-platter 2.5TB hard drive is possible. The 640GB platters could come out as early as next month.

QNAP Launches TS-239 Pro II and TS-439 Pro II SMB NAS Servers

QNAP Systems has added to its Turbo NAS line with two new NAS servers targeted to SMB and corporate users. The TS-239 Pro II (2 drive model) and TS-439 Pro II (4 drive model) feature the Intel Atom D410 CPU and support for up to 8TB of storage.

Samsung EcoGreen F3EG 2TB Eco-Friendly Hard Drive Released

Samsung has updated their EcoGreen HDD line with the F3EG. The new 3.5" desktop drives feature 500GB platters, and come in sizes up to 2TB; 500GB more than the current generation F2EG. The F3EG uses a SATA 3.0Gb/s interface and 16MB or 32MB buffer memory.

Intel, Micron Officially Intro 25nm NAND Flash

Intel and Micron today officially announced the world’s first 25nm NAND flash technology, which will provide increased storage capacity and reduced cost. With 25nm technology, 8GB can be stored in a single NAND device that fits into a hole in the middle of a CD.
