Build and Design Seasonic PRIME TX-1600 Noctua Edition

Internally, the PRIME TX-1600 Noctua Edition showcases Seasonic’s refined engineering, featuring a cable-free connection design that improves overall signal integrity and reduces potential points of failure. Voltage regulation is exceptionally tight with Micro Tolerance Load Regulation (MTLR) at 0.5%, and ripple noise is kept below 20 mV, ensuring stable power delivery across all rails. The PSU’s fully modular layout features individually sleeved black and Noctua-brown cables, as well as gold-plated high-current terminals, for improved durability and conductivity.

Cooling is handled by Noctua’s premium NF-A12x25 fan, integrated with Seasonic’s Digital Hybrid Fan Control, allowing the PSU to remain silent under low to moderate loads before ramping up only when necessary. The native 12V-2×6 connector ensures seamless compatibility with PCIe 5.1 GPUs. At the same time, support for multi-GPU setups and high-wattage CPU platforms makes this unit an ideal choice for demanding workstation and enthusiast systems.

The Seasonic PRIME TX-1600 Noctua Edition features a complete set of fully modular, individually braided black cables, accented with subtle Noctua brown highlights on select strands to complement the PSU’s overall aesthetic. These premium cables improve cable management and add a refined touch to the internal build. Included are one 610 mm 24/20-pin motherboard cable, three 700 mm CPU 8/4-pin cables, and six 750 mm PCIe 8/6-pin cables for high-performance GPUs or add-in cards.

For storage and peripherals, the PSU provides four 950 mm SATA cables with four connectors each, a single 550 mm SATA 3.3V cable with two connectors, and a 690 mm Molex cable with three connectors. It also includes two 700 mm 12VHPWR (12+4 pin to 12+4 pin) cables built to the 12V-2×6 specification, ensuring support for the latest high-power GPUs. To assist with clean routing, a full set of matching cable combs is provided, helping maintain a tidy and professional look throughout the system.

Why the Seasonic PRIME TX-1600 Noctua Edition Is So Quiet

The Seasonic PRIME TX-1600 Noctua Edition is approximately 8 to 10 dB(A) quieter than the standard model across its entire fan speed range. This significant acoustic improvement comes primarily from Noctua’s NF-A12x25 120 mm fan, which offers superior airflow-to-noise efficiency compared to the standard 135 mm fan used in the regular version. Complementing the fan, a custom-engineered fan grill in the Noctua Edition further enhances airflow and reduces acoustic turbulence, resulting in approximately 2 dB(A) of noise reduction.

The PSU features a semi-passive fan profile, keeping the fan off until it reaches either a 25 °C ambient temperature or 50% load (approximately 800W). When active, the Noctua fan operates between approximately 540 and 1200 RPM under typical conditions, starting at 17% PWM and ramping gradually. Higher speeds, up to 2400 RPM, are only accessible under maximum load at an ambient temperature of 50 °C. This keeps fan noise virtually inaudible in standard use cases.

The Noctua Edition maintains its 8 to 10 dB(A) advantage across all speeds, even though the difference is less perceptible at very low RPMs in normal environments due to ambient noise levels. At 45 percent PWM (the likely upper limit during typical operation), the Noctua version emits approximately 24 dB(A) compared to 34 dB(A) on the standard model. This is a substantial real-world reduction for silence-focused builds.

The redesigned fan grill is not only quieter but also improves airflow. Unlike the standard grill, which can reduce aerodynamic load through open gaps but at the cost of cooling performance, the Noctua grill seals the fan area, minimizing backflow. While this may slightly increase noise at a given RPM, it delivers better cooling at lower speeds.

Conclusion

The Seasonic PRIME TX-1600 Noctua Edition stands out as one of the most refined and capable PSUs we’ve tested. It combines elite electrical performance, premium build quality, and ultra-quiet cooling into a single package designed for demanding environments. In our lab at StorageReview, this unit now powers our primary AMD Threadripper test platform, built around the 64-core 7980X CPU with a 350W TDP. This workstation also serves as our GPU testbench and recently handled the GeForce RTX 5090, which has a peak power draw of 575W. With 1600W of clean, reliable power delivery, the system could comfortably support dual 5090-class GPUs with ease, a rarity in real-world configurations.
