LaCie 8big Rack Thunderbolt 2 Now Available

LaCie has announced the availability of their LaCie 8big Rack Thunderbolt 2 in a 48TB capacity. Originally announced back in April, the 8big Rack is the fastest, highest–capacity Thunderbolt 2 storage solution on today’s market, with LaCie quoting speeds upwards of 1,330MB/s when equipped with eight Seagate 6TB 7200 RPM enterprise hard drives. The 8big Rack is also designed with 4K video workflows in mind, allowing it to deliver ample bandwidth to support 10–bit, 4K footage so that videographers can work directly from RAW files in video editing software all the while seeing edits in real time.

LaCie indicates their 8big Rack can compete with 8Gb/s Fibre Channel DAS solutions by offering better speeds and simpler connections with none of the complexities that are usually associated with an expensive Fibre Channel setup. The LaCie 8big Rack delivers data security and serviceability with full component redundancy, hardware RAID 5/6 for data redundancy, and dual Thunderbolt 2 ports, which allows for the expansion potential of a single Mac Pro to have up to 1.7PB. The 8big Rack also has a compact 1U chassis design, enabling it to save valuable space in server cabinets.

Pricing and Availability

The LaCie 8big Rack 48TB is available now through LaCie and its resellers at $4,999.99 and also available in four–disk 12TB model for $1,699.99 or an eight–disk 24TB model for $2,799.99. Thunderbolt 2 is compatible with the same cables and connectors as first–generation Thunderbolt.
