LaCie Rugged Portable Hard Drive Released
LaCie has announced the newest version of its Rugged external hard drive, featuring faster speeds, a tougher design, integrated interface cable, and fast Thunderbolt speeds. The latest Rugged is also more resilient than previous models with improved shock, dust, and water resistance. Additionally, the integrated Thunderbolt cable stows neatly when not in use to ensure that it will never get lost or left behind.
The LaCie Rugged features speedy transfer speeds due to the Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 interfaces with the SSD version delivering up to 387MB/s. These speeds allow photographers, videographers, and other power users to transfer 100GB in less than five minutes as well as with zero lag when accessing files, viewing photos, or editing videos. The hard disk version performs at speeds of up to 122MB/s, which is a 35% improvement over FireWire 800.
The new LaCie Rugged supports Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 interfaces making it ideal for both Mac and PC users. The LaCie Rugged is also fully bus-powered through the USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt cables.
LaCie’s updated Rugged drive is MIL-compliant, meaning that data is protected even when accidental drops of up to 2 meters occur. When users are mobile, they can attach the removable cover to provide IP 54-level protection against dust and water, giving peace of mind that data is still accessible after being exposed to harsh elements. Additionally, the SSD version is extra resilient against vibration and shock with both versions being tough enough to be shipped for reliable delivery to clients or partners. The LaCie rugged also includes software to protect files from prying eyes with AES 256-bit encryption.
Pricing and availability
The LaCie Rugged is slated for a mid-June release through LaCie resellers in 1TB ($219.99) and 2TB ($299.99) capacities. The 250GB SSD ($299.99) and 500GB SSD ($499.99) capacities will be available early July.
