Dell has made several announcements at VMworld, including the introduction of the Dell Validated System for Virtualization, touted by the company as the industry’s most flexible converged system, new client virtualization solutions with enhanced performance for demanding use cases, and that VMware has selected Dell Financial Services as its preferred financing partner.

The new Dell Validated System for Virtualization allows customers to accelerate their transformation towards a converged infrastructure. It includes an array of form-factors, technology choices and deployment options, all of which can be customized to fit each customer’s needs. Dell indicates that a fully-validated system can be configured, quoted and ordered within a matter of minutes, and allows customers to easily deploy, scale, and update the system via their automated lifecycle management tools. This means customers can make server selections for instance, down to the CPU, RAM and storage level, just like configuring a single server on Dell's site today.

With the new VMware vRealize Suite, Dell Validated System for Virtualization ensures the efficient delivery of services and greater control of IT resources. Dell adds that the combination of VMware vRealize and their automated provisioning across physical and virtual environments allows customers to plan, build, operate their own cloud much easier than before.

Dell also unveiled new client virtualization solutions, giving customers the manageability, flexibility and performance they need to have effective VDI environments. Dell includes the following features:

  • The Dell Solutions for VMware Virtual SAN Ready Nodes. This is a hyperconverged solution for desktop and application virtualization that delivers simple, elastic and efficient infrastructure optimized for virtual desktops. Deployment options range from a reference architecture to a fully configured VMware Virtual SAN appliance that’s been certified by VMware. Configuration options include discrete GPU graphics for uncompromising density and productivity as well as storage options including hybrid storage (HDD and SDD) or an all-flash SSD configuration for those who require superior performance. The solutions come with a choice of virtualization software broker options: VMware Horizon 7 or VMware Horizon Air Hybrid-Mode. VMware Horizon Air Hybrid-Mode is the first management plan to manage virtual desktops from the cloud.
  • Support for VMware Blast Extreme remote display protocol: This will be incorporated on Dell Windows Embedded thin clients running VMware Horizon 7 with Horizon Client 4.0. This enables Horizon end users to access their virtual desktops via a Web browser or a full-featured VMware Horizon client for an even richer graphical experience, providing greater flexibility and management options in their virtual workspace environments.
  • The next-generation of the Dell Precision Appliance for Wyse. This offers a new configuration based on the Dell PowerEdge R730 server and the NVIDIA Tesla M60 GRID 2.0 graphics card for demanding power users from a variety of organizations including the oil and gas industry or engineering and construction firms. This solution offers customers higher user density with up to 32 users per appliance.

Also announced are the Dell Data Protection | Threat Defense for Windows Embedded (WES) thin clients and Dell Data Protection | Endpoint Security Suite Enterprise for persistent virtual machines, two new security solutions that provide layers of advanced threat protection. These new security-focused solutions are powered by Cylance, which spans from the endpoint (including thin clients, traditional PCs and even Mac OS systems) to the data center. Dell ensures that all facets of an organization’s Windows-based VDI environment will be protected.

Lastly, Dell Financial Services has been chosen by VMware as their preferred financing partner and thus will be offering flexible payment plans for VMware solutions. This new partnership gives VMware customers and channel partners access to all of DFS’ traditional financing options as well as a range of flexible solutions to help them finance their virtualized environments.
