Barracuda Announces Data Protection Plus Initiative

Barracuda Networks Inc. announced today its new Data Protection Plus strategic initiative aimed at helping customers protect, manage, and share data through any device they use and from anywhere they are. Along with the new initiative they are announcing several new releases and major enhancements cross their portfolio of cloud-connected backup solutions, as well as their acquisition of C2C Systems.


Barracuda Networks Inc. announced today its new Data Protection Plus strategic initiative aimed at helping customers protect, manage, and share data through any device they use and from anywhere they are. Along with the new initiative they are announcing several new releases and major enhancements cross their portfolio of cloud-connected backup solutions, as well as their acquisition of C2C Systems.

All of the options across Barracuda's expanded portfolio will help accelerate the use or virtualization, cloud, and mobile technologies and give IT departments the flexibility they need, all through an easy-to-use web interface. Each new update represents an aspect of Barracuda’s new Data Protection Plus initiative. The main highlights and the aspect of the new initiative are:

Protection Plus Availability, Barracuda Backup 6.0 – extends the flexibility for businesses that are deploying in cloud-connected or private “dark” environments. The latest version includes several updates including:

  • Local control, enabling operation and management in private “dark” environments without sending data to the cloud
  • Granular recovery of Microsoft Hyper-V, for faster recovery times without the need to restart the VM
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2014 support

Protection Plus Accessibility, Barracuda Message Archiver 4.0 – extends archiving by moving or copying data to the Cloud. The latest version includes several updates including:

  • Extends capacity and disaster recovery by allowing users to access email from any device regardless if email services are available
  • Allow customers to connect appliances for capacity expansion and federated search in order to scale and grow business, without over-committing resources
  • Available as a virtual appliance, allowing customers to deploy archives without additional hardware

Protection Plus Mobility, Barracuda Copy Site Server – an on-premise device that optimizes access, performance, and security by enabling onsite and cloud-based file sync and sharing. The solution has the ability to work as a local network drive, supports existing file shares, and works with corporate authentication services.

Protection Plus Productivity, Barracuda SignNow Appliance – another on-premise device, this one allows businesses to share, sign, and collaborate in a secure environment. This new appliance allows business to deploy a robust eSignature solution on-premises in either hardware or virtual form factor.

Protection Plus Information Management – Barracuda has also acquired C2C Systems, a leading provider of information management, email archiving, and PST management solutions. This acquisition will allow Barracuda to offer customers a more complete product portfolio enabling IT to be simplified and storage costs to be better controlled. The acquisition adds:

  • Expanded file and message archiving
  • eDiscovery
  • PST management solutions
  • Helps eliminates risks associated with distributed PST files
  • Reduced eDiscovery overhead
  • Supports information management and governance initiatives

The new functionality, available as part of the Data Protection Plus initiative, is included at no additional cost to existing customers with Energize Updates subscriptions. Additional details of products and general availability will be released in the coming weeks.
