Today CommVault announced the availability of the CommVault Backup Appliance with NetApp. The appliance is a combination of Simpana software with NetApp's E-Series storage in a purpose-built, pre-configured data protection solution. This solution furthers the partnership between the two companies that started with the development of NetApp SnapProtect.

This all-in-one backup appliance comes in different scalable configurations with all of CommVault's software preinstalled. This solution and be installed and deployed easily giving customers "power-up to backup in less than an hour" saving both time and cost. Once started up the appliance can be deployed across the customer's IT environment.

CommVault Backup Appliance with NetApp benefits and capabilities include:

  • Data protection for both physical and virtual servers, laptops, desktops, and a wide range of enterprise applications
  • Integrated replication
  • Reporting
  • Encryption
  • File Archiving
  • Global (source and target) deduplication
  • Can be deployed in a parallel or grid architecture
  • Can be replicated to another appliance at a remote site for disaster recovery
  • Parallel or partitioned deduplication allowing two deduplication pools combined into one (doubling the size of the deduplication database and providing software load balancing and failover capabilities)

CommVault's Simpana integrates with NetApp's backup solutions in a few ways. For one, Simpana has the industry's broadest support for managing NetApp Integrated Data Protection solutions (these solutions enable snapshot mirror/vault/restore/management on its primary storage lines). Simpana offers a single pane of glass management for NetApp's IDP solutions. The new solution also helps customers that need to perform a backup across a heterogeneous storage environment, consolidating across traditional backup and snapshot-based approaches.
