Cumulus Linux and NetQ Now Extended to Campus Networks

by Lyle Smith

Cumulus Networks has announced the availability of Cumulus Linux and NetQ for enterprises, which is expected to bring the advantages of open and disaggregated data center networking to campus networks through a single fabric. Cumulus says that it will “modernize” the campus network by removing complexity, simplifying operations and improving reliability and performance, and will achieve this with DevOps practices such as Infrastructure-as-Code, deeper network visibility and standards-based infrastructure with a two-tier leaf-spine architecture.

Partnering with Dell EMC, the goal Cumulus Networks is to simplify campus network architectures (e.g., especially those burdened with out-of-date architectures and useless features) with its uniform operating model. The company believes that this will streamline operations through automation and orchestration, reduce operational expenses by minimizing the need for IT support, and help eliminate expensive support renewals from “legacy vendors.”

Cumulus indicates several critical features that are available immediately:

  • 802.1x for authentication and security
  • Automation
  • Power over Ethernet (PoE)
  • 1G and MultiGig campus switches
  • Voice VLAN
  • L2/L3 switching
  • MLAG
  • EVPN/VXLAN

If you’re looking for more details, Cumulus Networks will be hosting the live webinar “Extending data center innovation to campus networks" on Tuesday, October 29 at 10am PST. You can register here.
