Dell EMC Adds Two Plugins To Unity XT

by Michael Rink

Dell Technologies released two plugins for Dell EMC Unity XT. Unity, in this case, does not refer to the popular video game software development environment, but to Dell's line of all-flash unified storage servers. The first plugin is for Kubernetes and is called the Container Storage Interface (CSI) plugin. The second plugin is a VMware vRealize Orchestrator (vRO) plugin.

With the CSI plugin for Dell EMC’s Unity XT midrange storage platform, customers can deploy stateful applications on a Kubernetes cluster with persistent storage. The plugin maps Kubernetes logical volumes to NAS shares on a storage array to allow dynamic provisioning and mounting of these volumes in an automated deployment workflow. The plugin supports Kubernetes 1.14, but not earlier versions and is hosted on GitHub.

The vRO Plug-in for Dell EMC Unity XTdelivers low-level and VMware-integrated workflows. The VMware vRealize Orchestrator (vRO) plugin supports discovery workflows; Unity provisioning, data protection, and tenant operational workflows; as well as ESXi host operational workflows. At the time of writing the plugin is compatible with vRealize Orchestrator 7.5.0 and 7.6.0. On the Dell side, Unity and Unity VSA 4.5 and 5.0 are supported.
