At Fortune Brainstorm Tech, Michael Dell announced the Dell Fluid Data Storage Fund, a new $60 million early stage investment fund. This fund is part of Dell Ventures and offers a strategic complement to Dell’s existing M&A, R&D, and partnership channels for the development and monetization of new storage intellectual property.

Dell plans to invest in five to ten storage startups with average investments of $3-5 million per round. The fund’s investments will be aligned to two broad themes in Dell’s storage strategy:

  • Bringing high-end enterprise features to the mid-market
  • Solving enterprise problems at a midrange price point.

In addition to investment capital, Dell will offer startups its global brand and footprint, technical expertise and IP, OEM and go to-market capabilities.
