Used with HDDs, the Ultra48 can serve approximately 58TB and leverage the performance of 2.5-inch enterprise drives and a spectrum of interconnect options. According to Dot Hill, the new arrays can reach 6,400 MB/s sustained reads and 5,300 MB/s writes.

Ultra48 arrays will be available with interfaces including converged 16Gb Fibre Channel and 10Gb iSCSI dual-personality, 12Gb SAS, and AssuredSAN Expansion array or JBOD connectivity. Administrators can reconigure the Ultra48 array between four Fibre Channel ports, four iSCSI ports, or a combination of FC and iSCSI ports. The Ultra48 can also be used in combination with an AssuredSAN 4004 2U12 or 2U24 chassis as a RAID head or JBOD for expansion.

The Ultra48’s drawers can be opened for service with the system online and can be swapped entirely themselves. The Ultra48 is backed by a 37 month warranty that covers all hardware components, including interface transceivers.

The Ultra48 is built on Dot Hill’s standard RAID stack, which means it supports the RAIDar management software, AssuredSnap point-in-time snapshots, AssuredCopy volume copies, and AssuredRemote replication. Updates are expected to add support for storage software platforms including VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Citrix XenServer, and Veeam Backup & Replication. Dot Hill also plans to enable platform support for HGST and Seagate Full Disk Encryption (FDE) later this quarter.

Availability

A variety of AssuredSAN Ultra48 configurations will become available this quarter.
