GIGABYTE H261-Z60 2U 4 Node Server Announced

GIGABYTE has announced the release of the 2U 4 Node H261-Z60, the first model from the Density Optimized Server Series that features an AMD EPYC processor. Each node supports dual AMD EPYC 7000 series processors with up to 32 cores, 64 threads and 8 channels of memory per CPU, meaning that they can feature up to 64 cores and 128 threads of compute power. The H261-Z60 also comes equipped with 4 individual hot pluggable sliding node trays that seamlessly slide in and out from the rear of the unit, and features shared cooling and power for the nodes with a dual fan wall of 8 (4 x 2) easy swap fans and 2 x 2200W redundant PSUs.

As far as memory capacity goes, GIGABYTE certainly delivers. Each socket uses EPYC’s 8 channels of memory with 1 x DIMM per channel / 8 x DIMMS per socket for a grand total of 16 x DIMMS per node and over 1TB of memory per each node. The H261-Z60's front panel houses 24 x 2.5” hot-swappable drive bays, providing 6 x HDD or SSD SATA / SAS storage drives per node. Each of these nodes features dual M.2 ports (PCIe Gen3 x 4) including NVMe flash storage devices. At maximum, GIGABYTE indicates that their new server has the ability to reduce data center footprints by upwards of 50% compared to a standard 1U dual socket server.

Each node also integrates Dual 1GbE LAN ports as a standard networking option as well as 2 x half-length low profile PCIe Gen3 x 16 slots and 1 x OCP Gen3 x 16 mezzanine slot, both of which allow users to further expand the server via add-in cards such as high speed networking or RAID storage cards.

To make it so only one MLAN connection is required for management of all four nodes, the H261-Z60 is equipped with a system-wide Aspeed Central Management Controller and LAN module switch, which connect internally to Aspeed BMCs integrated on each node. As a result, this means less Top of Rack cabling and less ports required on a top of rack switch.
