Hitcachi’s Travelstar 5K1000 is a 1TB 2.5-inch drive with a 6GB/s SATA interface and delivers the best 5,400 RPM performance in both PCMark Vantage and PCMark 7 testing; a first for its class. The G-DRIVE mobile model supports both USB 2.0 and FireWire 800 connectivity, while the G-DRIVE mobile USB model offers ubiquitous USB 2.0. Both drives are bus powered so an external AC power supply is not needed. The G-Technology G-DRIVE mobile USB drive is set to ship sometime in January in limited supplies to online and retail stores with a suggested retail price of $179.99 USD for 1TB and $149.99 USD for 750GB. The 1TB G-DRIVE mobile will ship in the first quarter of ‘12 with an MSRP of $199.99.

G-Technology’s G-RAID and G-DRIVE solutions will now feature Hitachi’s 4TB, 7,200 RPM Deskstar 7K4000 hard drives. The new 7K4000 drive uses a 6GB/s SATA interface and 64MB cache buffer aiding the G-DRIVE and G-RAID solutions in providing quick access to data. Both G-Technology external drives offer 3Gbit eSATA, FireWire 800 (FireWire 400 via included cable) and USB2.0 ports, which will provide significant flexibility. They are also formatted for Mac OS X systems out of the box and are Time Machine ready. To prepare the drives for use with Windows platforms, only a basic initialization is required.
