Hitachi Intros LifeStudio External Hard Drive

by storagereview

The Hitachi LifeStudio external drive series is designed for backups and file management. It automatically finds and organizes photos, movies, music, and files into a "3D interface." Some models come with an auto-synced USB key for portable use.

The LifeStudio drives are available in Mobile (2.5") and Desk (3.5") versions. It automatically finds and organizes photos, movies, music, and files into a 3D interface. Hitachi uses the term 3D a bit liberally here, as nice as the interface may be (interface demo), we don’t think it’s actually 3D ready.  The unit also provides access to FaceBook, Flickr, and Picasa.

The LifeStudio drives use two forms of backup; locally to the drive itself and online to the cloud. 3GB of storage is included and 250GB is available for $49/year.

The LifeStudio Plus drives come with an auto-synced 4GB USB key. The key fits into the drive enclosure.

The LifeStudio drives will be available in mid-July for both PC and Mac. They have a USB 2.0 interface and come pre-loaded with the Hitachi LifeStudio content management app and Hitachi Backup software.
