HPE is introducing cost-effective, sub $10K, hybrid flash and software-defined storage platforms that can bring enterprise capacity and capabilities to SMBs. To help SMBs take full advantage of what is available HPE is releasing StoreVirtual 3200 storage systems, HPE MSA 2042 storage systems, and HPE StoreVirtual Migration Manager.
Today Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE) announced new solutions aimed at modernizing small and midsized businesses’ (SMBs) IT. HPE is introducing cost-effective, sub $10K, hybrid flash and software-defined storage platforms that can bring enterprise capacity and capabilities to SMBs. To help SMBs take full advantage of what is available HPE is releasing StoreVirtual 3200 storage systems, HPE MSA 2042 storage systems, and HPE StoreVirtual Migration Manager.
There are lots of technologies available that can be of great benefit to companies that use them: flash for app acceleration, software-defined storage for cost savings, and hyper-convergence to accelerate time-to-value. The biggest challenge for SMBs has been the cost and complexity of deploying these solutions. HPE intends to bridge this gap with two new storage systems and software that helps SMBs migrate onto them.
For entry-level arrays, HPE is introducing StoreVirtual 3200. According to HPE the StoreVirtual 3200 is a next generation, flexible shared storage system. The 3200 is built off of the same software-defined storage platform used in over 200,000 StoreVirtual deployments worldwide. For roughly $6K, the StoreVirtual 3200 brings a 64-bit ARM dual-controller array with a new RAID stack and advanced storage data services like snapshots, thin provisioning and replication to SMBs. On top of that as well as five 9s of availability, the StoreVirtual 3200 uses the same composable data fabric as other HPE gear such as VSA software running seamlessly on HPE ProLiant servers, HPE hyperconverged appliances, and HPE Synergy. This gives SMBs futureproofing as well as a path for future growth.
Another selling point of the HPE StoreVirtual 3200 is its ease of deployment (HPE claims a matter of minutes) and management. To further simplify management, HPE has added a new remote, cloud-based analytics capability featuring a built-in best practices engine and capacity planning tools. And new customers can use HPE StoreVirtual Migration Manager to ease transition to the new technology.
HPE is also introducing a hybrid array for SMB’s at a starting price of less than $10K, the HPE MSA 2042. The MSA 2042 comes with 800GB of SSD capacity built in (that can be used as a read cache or accelerator) along with an all-inclusive software suite delivering enterprise capabilities. On top of that, the new HPE MSA 2042 also has flash acceleration, automated tiering and data protection features such as out-of-the-box support for up to 512 array snapshots and remote replication. The MSA 2042 is simple to manage much like the new StoreVirtual 3200. And again much like the StoreVirtual 3200, the MSA 2042 gives uses a path for growth as they can start off smaller and scale as their needs grow adding flash or hard drives as needed.

- HPE MSA 2042 storage systems are available now starting at $9,877.
- HPE StoreVirtual Migration Manager is expected to be available worldwide in the third quarter of 2016.
