The KIOXIA CD8P is the latest addition to KIOXIA’s data center-class SSD portfolio. These single-port SSDs are specifically designed for general-purpose server and cloud environments that leverage the high-performance capabilities offered by the PCIe Gen5 interface (32 gigatransfers/s x4).

With the increasing complexity of data center applications and large virtualized systems, the CD8P Series will be offered in both EDSFF E3.S and 2.5-inch (U.2) form factors with capacities ranging from 1.6TB to 15.36TB and 1.6TB to 30.72TB, respectively.

KIOXIA CD8P Series

The KIOXIA CD8P Series is focused on meeting the demanding requirements of data center environments, where power and thermal efficiency are paramount. This series aims to deliver consistent and predictable performance to ensure a seamless user experience. It also caters to the storage needs of next-generation digital enterprises and data centers, providing a range of performance, capacity, and security options.

KIOXIA CD8P Performance

The CD8P will be offered in two models to support different types of data usage and server environments. The KIOXIA CD8P-V is designed for data centers as a mixed-use drive, providing balanced performance to handle a variety of workloads effectively. Meanwhile, the KIOXIA CD8P-R, also tailored for data centers but categorized as read-intensive, offers optimized performance for tasks with high data reading demands, such as caching and content delivery applications.

The new KIOXIA series offers an impressive performance profile as well. They are expected to deliver exceptional random read performance of up to 2,000K IOPS, with random write performance expected to reach up to 400K IOPS. For sequential performance, the CDP8 series is quoted to deliver up to 12GB/s and 5.5GB/s for reads and writes, respectively.

The CD8P series maintain low and consistent 99.999th percentile latency, offering under 250us in standard random read workloads and under 1.8ms in standard OLTP-style mixed workloads.

The 5th generation data center drives are based on KIOXIA’s BiCS FLASH 3D flash memory TLC technology and feature an in-house developed controller. They comply with PCIe 5.0 and NVMe 2.0 specifications, as well as NVMe Management Interface (NVMe-MI) v1.1d. Furthermore, they support Open Compute Project (OCP) Datacenter NVMe SSDv specification (though KIOXIA indicates not all requirements are covered).

The KIOXIA CD8P Series drives include features such as complete data reliability with end-to-end data protection, power loss protection, and flash die failure recovery. For added security, SED models are available, supporting TCG Opal and Ruby SSCsvi.

KIOXIA CD8P Availability

Currently, the drives are in the sampling phase and are available to select customers.
