Lenovo and SimpliVity have announced a partnership with plans to develop hyperconverged infrastructure solutions based on their combined technologies. SimpliVity’s OmniStack data virtualization platform will now be integrated with Lenovo System x3650 servers via Arrow Electronics, global provider of products, services, and solutions for electronic components and enterprise computing.

SimpliVity focuses on hyperconverged infrastructure in order to help businesses reduce IT costs and deliver substantial TCO savings. More specifically, their technology and products are designed to accelerate deployment of resources and workloads as well as increase time to market. Previously, SimpliVity joined with Cisco to develop a hyperconverged infrastructure that leverages Cisco UCS, an x86 data center server platform that is comprised of computing hardware, virtualization support, switching fabric, and management software. In addition, Simplivity also introduced the OmniCube CN-2200 in January of this year, their latest addition to their OmniCube hyperconverged infrastructure.

With the SimpliVity OmniStack Solution running on a Lenovo System x3650 M5, it creates a hyperconverged IT platform that provides all IT services below the hypervisor in a single device. This includes compute, storage, and networking, real-time data deduplication, compression, and optimization functions along with built-in backup, disaster recovery, and WAN optimization capabilities. This enterprise-grade hyperconverged solution offers businesses with a scalable, modular, 2U building block of x86 resources, which includes all the functionality of conventional IT infrastructure. Additionally, OmniStack helps to remove IT expense and complexity by consolidating 8 to 12 data center components into a single shared resource pool using a global unified management.

Because the x3650 M5 provides pay-as-you-grow flexibility, it caters to businesses of all sizes. Lenovo also indicates that the x3650 M5 is built to decrease overall operating costs due to its outstanding reliability, availability, and service as well as its ability to ensure that business-critical applications and cloud deployments are running efficiently.

Key benefits include:

  • Simplified IT and 3x TCO savings through hyperconvergence
  • Improved performance for mission-critical applications combined with 40:1 average data efficiency
  • Enhanced ability to meet RPO and RTO objectives
  • Improved IT agility with VM-centric management approach

Availability

SimpliVity OmniStack Solution with Lenovo System x3650 M5 is slated for a release sometime during Q4 2015 in the United States and Canada.
