Lenovo Announces a Range of New ThinkPad Solutions

Lenovo has added a range of both new and updated ThinkPads to their mobile portfolio, including the world’s first laptop powered by the Snapdragon 8cx Gen3 and significant updates to their power-driven ThinkPad X1 Extreme. The bulk of the announcements is designed to address the growing needs of many different professional use cases, including processing power, high-end NVIDIA RTX GPUs, and portability.

Lenovo has added a range of both new and updated ThinkPads to their mobile portfolio, including the world’s first laptop powered by the Snapdragon 8cx Gen3 and significant updates to their power-driven ThinkPad X1 Extreme. The bulk of the announcements is designed to address the growing needs of many different professional use cases, including processing power, high-end NVIDIA RTX GPUs, and portability.

Lenovo ThinkPad P14s Gen 3 and P16s Gen 1

The ThinkPad P14s Gen 3 and P16s Gen 1 are the company’s most mobile workstation offerings with enough performance to satisfy most professional needs. The new models feature the latest Intel Core processors and NVIDIA T550 professional graphics and are best suited for applications such as AutoCAD, Revit, and SolidWorks.

The P14s and P16s also focus on reliability and durability with the ThinkShield security suite and MIL-SPEC testing. Compared to previous versions, they offer improved usability features including a wider touchpad, all-day battery capacity, an upgraded FHD webcam, blue light reduction, and X-Rite factory color calibration for true-to-life color accuracy.

ThinkPad P16s Gen 1 is a new addition to the P Series, combining power and portability with a thin and light 16-inch chassis. It is purpose-built with engineers, architects, and students in mind, and has a 16:10 aspect ratio display to create a larger screen space for viewing and creating. Both workstations will be available in black or an aluminum storm grey cover.

Lenovo ThinkPad T series

Lenovo has added a few updates to its ThinkPad T series portfolio focused on improving the productivity and collaboration needs of a wide-ranging workforce. Among the changes include a move to a 16:10 aspect ratio for its displays, as well as low blue light technology with FHD camera options, Dolby Audio speaker system, and Dolby Voice. Coupled with a more stable Wi-Fi 6E2 connectivity and enhanced WWAN choices, these enhancements are designed to improve the collaboration experience.

The Lenovo ThinkPad T series is available with either the latest 12th Gen Intel Core or the latest AMD Ryzen PRO 6000 Series processors.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5

The ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5 is the most performance-driven series of the bunch, as they are designed for those with demanding work needs and who enjoy high-definition media. The fifth-generation ups the ante with a range of big new enhancements, including the latest 12th Gen Intel Core i9 H-Series processors and NVIDIA GeForce RTX laptop GPUs, up to 64GB DDR5 memory, and optional dual SSDs for a combined capacity of up to a hefty 8TB.

Here’s a complete rundown of the new ThinkPad X1 Extreme Gen 5 features:

  • New 165Hz refresh rate 16-inch 16:10 aspect ratio display option with low blue light technology. Other display options7 offer up to 600 nit brightness with 4K resolution, factory color calibration, Dolby Vision HDR for ultra-vivid image quality, and feature low blue light technology. Touch and pen input are optional features on select panels.
  • 12th Gen Intel Core H-series processors up to i9 and optional Intel vPro technology
  • New High-performance mobile graphics options delivered courtesy of NVIDIA GeForce RTXTM 3080 Ti with 16GB GDDR6. Other options include NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Ti, RTX 3060 or RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPUs.
  • Integrated liquid metal thermal paste for both CPU and GPU and vapor chamber cooling.
  • X1 Extreme Gen 5 can be configured with fast DDR5 4800Mhz memory up to 64GB and two 4TB M.2 PCIe Gen 4 SSDs and a large capacity 90Wh battery.
  • SD Express 7.0 card reader to support the latest ultra-fast SDXC memory cards.
  • Dolby Voice with its latest noise-canceling technology is added to the Dolby-powered solutions that include standard Dolby Atmos speaker system and optional Dolby Vision on select displays.

Lenovo ThinkPad X13s

The ThinkPad X13s is the world’s first laptop powered by the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 compute platform, 5G, and 28 hours of battery life. The X13s is highlighted by its ultra-slim, ultra-light fan-less design and a multi-day battery life rated up to 28 hours. It also comes with AI accelerated experiences, enhanced 5G connectivity options (including mmWave), and application support through the Microsoft App Assure program.

The ThinkPad X13s was created with the environment in mind, as it is built with 90% certified recycled magnesium in the top and bottom covers, and 97% PCC plastic in the battery PCB cover and battery frame. It also features recyclable cartons and bumpers in the packaging and was manufactured using the company’s low-temperature solder method. Lenovo indicates that can reduce carbon emissions by up to 35%.

Further adding to its energy-efficient design, the X13s also has low-power 13.3-inch 16:10 display configurations with touch or Eyesafe low blue light options, which means lower AC power requirements to reduce energy consumption.

On-the-go professionals like field technicians and front-line workers will enjoy the light 1.06kg (2.35 pounds) build, while it’s Wi-Fi 6E6 provides a more stable high-speed connection. When this is unavailable, or if you don’t want to connect to an unsecured, public hotspot, the device can switch to 5G mmWave or sub6 Wireless WAN fast, highly secure connectivity.

Other Lenovo Laptop Announcements

In addition to the ThinkPad announcements, Lenovo also unveiled a range of other mobile solutions. Here’s a quick rundown:

  • ThinkVision M14d mobile USB-C monitor weighing less than 1.3 pounds, with a 14-inch 16:10 aspect ratio display with a resolution of (2240 x 1400).
  • ThinkBook 14s Yoga Gen 2 and ThinkBook 13s Gen 4 i laptops feature dual-tone color highlights with an anodized aluminum exterior design as well as 12th Gen Intel Core processors along with Thunderbolt 4, and Intel Wi-Fi 6E.
  • IdeaPad Gaming 3i and IdeaPad Gaming 3 entry-level laptop series with a new design in two screen sizes, 15-inch, and 16-inch, offering performance with an option of up to 12th Gen Intel Core i7 H-series or AMD Ryzen 6000 H-series Mobile processors and the option of up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 or the latest Intel Arc graphics.
  • IdeaPad Flex 5i and Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 convertible laptops are offered in two screen sizes (14-inch and 16-inch) with an optional Lenovo E-color pen. Features up to 12th Gen Intel Core i7 U-series processor and Intel Iris Xe MAX graphics, and the IdeaPad Flex 5 with up to AMD Ryzen 7 U-series processor and built-in AMD Radeon graphics.
  • IdeaPad Duet 5i new 12-inch detachable laptop with Windows, bundled Bluetooth keyboard, optional Active Pen 3, powered by 12th Gen Intel Core i7 processors, and the panel is a 2.5K IPS touchscreen display in taller 16:10 format.
  • IdeaPad Flex 5i and 3i Chromebooks (14” & 15”) 2-in-1 convertible laptops, with either 12th Gen Intel Core processors,14-inch FHD IPS 16:10 aspect ratio display, or 15.6-inch FHD IPS touchscreen display with Pentium Silver N6000 processor.
  • IdeaPad Duet 3 Chromebook fan-less detachable with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7c Gen 2 Compute Platform 11-inch 2K near-borderless display that’s TÜV-certified2 for low blue light.
  • Lenovo Tab M10 Plus (3rd Gen) Android tablet powered by an octa-core processor with up to 6GB RAM and 128GB storage ships on Android 12 OS with updates to come.  It comes with clever optimized Reading Mode settings and supports the Lenovo Precision Pen 2.
