Mellanox & Micron Set Record With 1.2Tb/s Storage Performance

by Adam Armstrong

Today Mellanox Technologies, Ltd. announced that it is able to deliver 1.2Tb/s data communication bandwidth on a high performance Windows Server 2016 storage solution. Mellanox states that this level of performance will be able to maximize cloud infrastructure performance at the lowest possible cost. This solution, with this level of performance, will eliminate traditional bottlenecks associated with software-defined data center deployments while running application extremely efficiently on Windows Server 2016.

Mellanox states that this level of performance will be able to maximize cloud infrastructure performance at the lowest possible cost. This solution, with this level of performance, will eliminate traditional bottlenecks associated with software-defined data center deployments while running application extremely efficiently on Windows Server 2016.

1.2Tb/s was hit on a 12-node cluster which included a combination of HP ProLiant DL380 Gen9 servers, Micron’s NVMe, and the Mellanox ConnectX-4 RoCE (RDMA over Converged Ethernet) NICs, all connected by the Mellanox Spectrum switch and LinkX cables. A setup like the one listed above is able to utilize the full 100Gb/s Ethernet bandwidth between applications and server-based storage. The setup also enables compute and storage traffic to run over a single wire, thus improving ROI for hyper-converged infrastructure and enables multicore CPUs to achieve their full capacity to run applications.

Mellanox intends to demonstrate this performance at Microsoft Ignite 2016 September 26-29.
